BLACK PANTHER'S Box Office Reign Set To End This Weekend With The Release Of PACIFIC RIM UPRISING

After shattering records and holding the box office crown for five straight weeks, it appears Black Panther's reign may be approaching its end this weekend with the release of Pacific Rim Uprising.

King of Wakanda, and king of the box office: Ryan Coogler's Black Panther has broken all kinds of records and dominated the BO for the past five weeks, becoming the first film to do so since 2009's Avatar. Unfortunately, it seems the king maybe be relinquishing the crown this weekend following the release of Pacific Rim Uprising.

Variety reports that the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim looks to earn between $22 million to $29 million domestically, which would likely take it past Black Panther to take the number one spot. Regardless, the wildly successful Marvel Studios film has now topped $1.2 billion worldwide and will probably continue with another $15 million to $18 million domestic haul over its sixth weekend in theatres.

How many times have you seen Black Panther? Will you be watching it again? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments!

@MattBellissimo - my sentiments exactly.
But no fair. I thought it was like an unwritten rule that editors can't be the first comment on their own article. So your first Is invalid
.. I say that respectfully of course.

@MattBellissimo - Its still hard for me to wrap my head around how big of an effect the film has had.

Just last week I saw a guy at the gym meet up with his trainer and they greeted one another just like this:

Seems trivial, but it was cool to see.

@BlackBeltJones - Not trivial at all man, it's great when you get to see things like that leak into the public consciousness. That's why that Oscars moment made me smile...Chadwick and his costars just really value how they got to be a part of something special.

@MattBellissimo - I really hope Coogler returns.

I hope his entire team comes back. Morrison. Everybody. They brought the right amount of passion and artistry to this.

@BlackBeltJones - I can't see a world in which they don't. But fingers crossed regardless.

@MattBellissimo - same. I think Coogler sees hes started something special.

Funny enough, I watched an interview where Rachel Morrison was talking about the film and said she would make a Bollywood film if Coogler asked. She said if he calls, she's in no matter what.

I won’t be surprised if the opposite happens and Black Panther remains at top.

I don’t know anyone all that excited or even aware of Pacific Rim. The first didn’t pull in exactly phenomenal numbers either. I enjoyed it for what it was but did I care enough to see more? Nah. Obviously just my own opinion here, but still.
