Could it be that the prince of Wakanda, Black Panther, and the master martial artist, Iron Fist, are the next ones in line to get film adaptions at Marvel Studios?
1. Back in March 2009, it was reported by Variety (a very reliable source mind you), that Marvel Studios (the studio behind Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and the upcoming Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and the ensemble film, The Avengers) was hiring writers to tackle bringing such characters as Iron Fist, Black Panther, Cable, Doctor Strange and The Vision to the big screen. Obviously, in my opinion, this means that these are the characters Marvel are most enthusiastic about bringing to the big screen after The Avengers, and honestly I agree. Well, at least about Iron Fist, Black Panther and Doctor Strange. The problem with Cable is that he should be with the X-Men and The Vision should not be introduced yet I dont think.
2. Then in June 2009, Kevin Feige, the man who is president of production of the company said that there would be a new film announced that would be released in 2012. This seems to make it even more likely that at least one of those characters will definantly be on the big screen in a couple years. It could be another production, but the fact of the matter is that since these characters were revealed to have been in at least writing stages only three months before Feige admitted to another film, seems to show that one of those characters will probably be this 2012 film.
3. In July 2009, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje revealed that he is in discussions with Marvel to play The Black Panther, the prince of Wakanda. "We're talking to Marvel about Black Panther… This is the first round, so hopefully they'll look at G.I. Joe and see the potential, but it's about time we have a black superhero.", said Adewale. Frankly, this seems to point further that Black Panther is probably the 2012 film. Interestingly, notice Adewale revealed this only a month after the internet started speculating about what this new Marvel Studios oriented film could be. Also, who knows, The Avengers could even set up The Black Panther considering they would be released the same year and Panther was in the Ultimate Avengers 2 animated film so why not?
4. Then just this month, it was reported on this very site that while Marvel confirmed that Thor and Captain America games were being released in 2011 (you would have to be stupid to not see that coming), Marvel has gone out of its way to trademark Iron Fist as a video game. Now it is possible that Iron Fist is just getting a game, but I dont understand why they would do one if there was no reason behind it? It is not like they release games for comic book characters just for the hell of it these days, the only superhero that has got video games without a movie to coincide with is Spider-Man, Batman and the X-Men, but those are big A-list superheroes. Most people have no idea who Iron Fist is so why would a video game adaption be successful if there was no movie for it to rely on? Again, Iron Fist was in writing preperations not too long ago, so a movie must be coming.
So I just found all this info and found it very amusing. I think it would be clever if Marvel used those two characters in the next wave of films being released after The Avengers. Because these two have major potential to be popular, and they both represent a different aspect of the Marvel universe that would be great in there new Marvel film universe. Iron Fist represents martial artists, and I guarantee that alone could make Iron Fist interesting to non-Iron Fist comic readers. Then The Black Panther is badass and can definantly make for a new kind of superhero film, and Marvel needs to introduce a black superhero into there film family of heroes. Doctor Strange has also been widely rumored to get a film after The Avengers, which is just as much interesting considering he represents magic and sorcery of the Marvel universe.
I am very excited about the idea of these characters finally getting on the big screen and I think once they do these films, there will be a new found respect for them.
