Marvel's Black Widow is set to introduce several new faces to the MCU, including Natasha Romanoff's (Scarlett Johansson) mysterious fix-it man, Mason, who'll be played by Handmaid's Tale actor O-T Fagbenle.
During an interview with Yahoo!, Fagbenle was asked about potentially reprising the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe down the line, and is certainly hoping for an opportunity to revisit the character.
"I had my own story in my head. I write a backstory for every character I do anyway," he explains. "And then when we got into rehearsals, we started comparing notes and came up with a joint idea of it. And I tell you, it's interesting. I can also not tell you anything more than that."
"I think it would be criminal for there not to be more Mason. That's my perspective," he adds.
Spoilers follow.
There's been a lot of speculation that Mason will actually be unveiled as Taskmaster, but, as you've probably heard by now, that doesn't happen. We won't tell you who is behind the villain's mask, but Fagbenle's character really is just the guy who sorts out Nat's weapons and travel arrangements.
To be perfectly honest, his role is a little expendable all things considered, but that doesn't mean there isn't potential for Mason to be fleshed out and given more to do later on.
Black Widow is out now in The U.K., and is set to hit U.S. theaters and Disney+ Premiere Access this Friday. You can check out our review here.
