Halle Berry Jokingly Suggests That Her CATWOMAN Role Paved The Way For BLACK PANTHER's Success

There are those that love to remind Black Panther fans that T'Challa was not the first black superhero to lead their own movie, and it looks like we can count Catwoman actress Halle Berry among them!...

Black Panther was definitely the most successful superhero movie to boast a black lead character, but it was not the first - though none of the others have had even a smidgen of the cultural and commercial impact that Ryan Coogler's acclaimed Marvel flick did.

Still, they are out there - something Halle Berry was happy to remind the audience of when she presented Master of None and Ready Player One actress Lena Waithe with a gong at Thursday’s GLAAD Media Awards.

The Academy Award-winning actress brought up her role in the much-maligned Catwoman movie, and jokingly suggested that she helped pave the way for The King of Wakanda's rise to prominence.

“Each story builds on the next. It’s like that old saying goes: behind every Black Panther is a great black Catwoman! You know, I’ve gotten a really bad rap for this role, and I think Catwoman deserves another goddamn chance, don’t you?”

Though some sites have spun it differently, Berry is obviously taking the piss here, as she's been a vocal detractor of the film herself in the past, referring to it as a "piece of shit, god-awful movie."

Regardless, maybe Catwoman does deserve another look? Yeah... maybe not.

@Kevwebsz - As someone who doesn't have a huge knowledge of DC (never got into the comics), out of all the rumoured/announced films for the DCEU Gothom City Sirens sounded the most intriguing to me.

It can satisfy many things in one film:

- instead of a Harley and/or Harley Joker film, they can merge that potential story into this. With only 3 woman as the leads, Joker could easily play a big role.

- introduces Catwoman and Ivy. And with such a small main cast if characters (compared to SS) they can all get sufficient screen time.

- it would be an organic way to have an "all female superhero" (not that that is a bad thing).

@Kevwebsz - A little secret: WB has a solo film in development for every DC comics character ever featured on a page.

I like it when stars can laugh at themselves without being too defensive (looking at you Zachary Levi).

Well to be fair both of those movies were beat to the finish line by Steel...can we just get those movies stricken from the records so Black Panther is the first African American superhero movie?

She's been in trash movies for the past decade it seems. Think her last good movie was Xmen 2.

Sadly it really just gave execs more ammunition on not greenlighting superhero movies starring females.
