Halle Berry Jokingly Suggests That Her CATWOMAN Role Paved The Way For BLACK PANTHER's Success
There are those that love to remind Black Panther fans that T'Challa was not the first black superhero to lead their own movie, and it looks like we can count Catwoman actress Halle Berry among them!...
Black Panther was definitely the most successful superhero movie to boast a black lead character, but it was not the first - though none of the others have had even a smidgen of the cultural and commercial impact that Ryan Coogler's acclaimed Marvel flick did.
Still, they are out there - something Halle Berry was happy to remind the audience of when she presented Master of None and Ready Player One actress Lena Waithe with a gong at Thursday’s GLAAD Media Awards.
The Academy Award-winning actress brought up her role in the much-maligned Catwoman movie, and jokingly suggested that she helped pave the way for The King of Wakanda's rise to prominence.
“Each story builds on the next. It’s like that old saying goes: behind every Black Panther is a great black Catwoman! You know, I’ve gotten a really bad rap for this role, and I think Catwoman deserves another goddamn chance, don’t you?”
Though some sites have spun it differently, Berry is obviously taking the piss here, as she's been a vocal detractor of the film herself in the past, referring to it as a "piece of shit, god-awful movie."
Regardless, maybe Catwoman does deserve another look? Yeah... maybe not.
