BLADE Actor Mahershala Ali Comments On His Surprise Role In [SPOILER]

It's been a while since we had a status update on the new Blade movie, but star Mahershala Ali has now weighed in on his surprise "appearance" as the Daywalker in a recent MCU project. Spoilers ahead.

Blade is a project that's been shrouded in secrecy since it was first announced that Marvel Studios planned to reboot the character for the MCU back in 2019's SDCC, and we still don't have an official release date for the project. However, we did recently get a little tease of Academy Award-winner Mahershala Ali's take on the Daywalker.

Spoilers follow.

We're sure many of you have seen Eternals at this stage, but if you haven't, best stop reading now.

Still here? So, in the movie's post-credits scene, Dane Whitman (Kit Harington) is about to take up the Ebony Blade when a voice stops him in his tracks. The person issuing the ominous warning to the future Black Knight is never shown, but it later came to light that it was actually Ali delivering his first line of dialogue as Blade.

Now, the actor has spoken about making his off-screen debut as the fan-favorite vampire hunter during an interview with Empire.

“It was really cool, getting to do that," Ali tells the mag. “It was scary. Because, you know, you're talking before you're filming it. I'm pretty particular about my choices, like most actors, and so having to make some choices – even with a line, vocally – this early on, it brought up some very real anxieties. And it made the job real. It's like, ‘Okay, this is happening now’, you know, and that's exciting.”

Ali didn't share any more info on the solo Blade movie, but did add that he's "excited to get going and do more." As for whether he's tried on that leather jacket/shades combo yet: “We're getting there,” he teases, “we're getting close.”

Based on what we saw in Eternals, Whitman will most likely appear in Blade, but there is a chance Ali will show up somewhere else as the Daywalker before his solo MCU outing. There are rumors that he might even factor into the upcoming Moon Knight Disney+ series, but that's yet to be confirmed.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Is it that new terrible Disney+ Home Alone movie? I would only watch it if Blade showed up halfway through and slaughtered everyone.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - yeah. With the pic and the fact eternals is the only marvel thing out now, anyone regularly going on this site would instantly know it's about blade being in eternals. Why not just have a pic of ali?

This movie has a lot to live up to when it comes to the first two Blade movies. But as long as it’s better than Blade 3, it’s a good movie.

@WakandaTech - don't forget Benedict Cumberbatch, Kit Harrington, Gael Garcia Bernal, and (hopefully) Elizabeth Olsen.

Midnight Sons gonna be hype as hell.

Also, give me Ghost Rider, Brother Voodoo, Elsa Bloodstone, and Man-Thing on the team too.

I really like the passion for this project. It feels like it's not forced at all and the movie is coming from a real desire to bring this character back. Its a great place to start.

At this point this is probably my most anticipated MCU movie, I’m a little worried about the rating handicapping it but man I’m so in for this. First one scared the living shit out of me btw. I was 7 and I made my dad put garlic on my bed for almost 2 weeks bc of it lol

@Ha1frican - That's a great story.

I was a preschooler watching the TV show "Dark Shadows" (a soap opera format about vampires) in the late sixties and came to the conclusion that, if I just wrapped my bedsheet around my neck while I slept, I would be okay.

Granted, I never verified this method with anyone (in retrospect, there was no way that would actually stop one from biting me), but it made me feel less likely to get bit and therefore get some sleep.

The weakest attempt to prevent spoilers I’ve seen in a while. Hmmm… what could the surprise role be? And what movie??
