SPELL And LOCKE & KEY Director Mark Tonderai Would Love To Direct Marvel Studios' BLADE Movie - EXCLUSIVE

We know Marvel Studios is looking for a writer to pen the Blade screenplay, and Spell, Locke & Key, and Black Lightning director Mark Tonderai has now expressed an interest in helming that movie...

Spell is a new horror movie from writer Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall) and director Mark Tonderai (Locke & Key). The cast includes Omari Hardwick (Power), Loretta Devine (Black-ish), and John Beasley (The Sum of All Fears), and arrives on Premium Video-On-Demand and Digital in time for Halloween on October 30th from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Recently, we had the chance to talk to Tonderai about his work on Spell and where he hopes to take his filmmaking career next. No stranger to the world of horror or comic books after taking the helm of shows like Castle Rock and Black Lightning, stepping into the director's chair for a blockbuster seems like a natural next step. As a British director, James Bond is understandably near the top of his list.

"[I] also want to do Bond. You want to do something as big as that just because it's something I was brought up on as a kid," he explained. "It's always been part of my family life. You want to do a Marvel film because it's a very different discipline. When you do a project like that, it's not really a Mark Tonderai film, it's a Marvel film. So, how do you get your DNA into a film like that?"

Talking of Marvel, there's one character, in particular, who jumps out at him.

"I'd love to do Blade. Blade, for me, is right up my street in terms of my sensibilities. I also think Stephen Norrington did a brilliant job with the first incarnation of it, and I'd argue that it was the first, other than Tim Burton's Batman, superhero film that really revolutionised movies to where we are now. So, Blade, I would absolutely love to do."

Interestingly, it sounds like some sort of comic book TV show or movie could already be on Tonderai's radar, as he later told us: "There's another project I'm working on at the moment which I can't discuss that's really exciting and I hope I get it."

We'll have to wait and see what that is, of course, but with the hunt now on for Blade's writer/s, the filmmaker definitely seems like a solid pick to board the Marvel Studios reboot.

Locke And Key is good.

Looks like is also bringing back Tiny Toons
https://www.cbr.com/hbo-max-cartoon-network-tiny-toons-looniversity/

With Animaniacs(including pinky and the brain) on hulu and Tiny toons on hbomax, only a matter of time before

If that one comes back, how about getting Bruce Timm and do his version of Freakazoid

The a lot if directors have put their imprints on the marvel films and gave it their own touch(Coogler, Gunn, Taika, Shane) I'm not sure what the Russo's touch is so I can't say what that it is

Spell looks like hella creepy. Might give it a watch. It’s nice to know that Blade is picking up steam. It’s one of my most anticipated Marvel projects.

Funny, he's been my choice to direct ever since the project was first announced or considered.
