Stephen Dorff To Star In "Blade" Spin-Off Prequel?

Apparently Dorff is itching to get his vamp on again...

This came out of nowhere! According to firstshowing.net, Stephen Dorff is gearing up to star in a movie(or series of movies) set before the events of "Blade" and featuring his character from that first movie, Deacon Frost, with Stephen Norrington returning to direct..

"It will be a prequel to the Blade movies, Deacon's story. It's a new trilogy the director has created. It will [be] cool," Dorff explained. "We hope to shoot the first film next year. Frost is a character I have never been able to shake."

It seems as if Dorff is eager to return to the Vampire/horror genre after the success of "Twishite" and the "Underworld" movies, although he also states..

"I would rather be in a good, small film than a hit which wasn't any good,"

Norrington has not directed a picture since the disastrous "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen", but he is showing signs of life agin with this as well as his proposed "Crow" reboot/make/imagining!

Personally i thought the first Blade was a decent film, easily bettered by Guillermo Del Toro's s sequel however. I remember Dorff being a pretty good villain, but does anyone really want to see these movies? Especially without Blade himself in them!

I probly wouldn't watch this... There's too many vampire flicks these days, and the only way I could watch another one is if blade is in it killing them

The back story of the vampires in the Marvel Universe is actually pretty interesting. Unfortunately I doubt we'll see much of it even if this gets made.

Maybe it's just me but I did not like any of the Blade movies...so to me a spin off of that would be like a Jessica Alba spin off of the Fantastic Four.

God I hope not. Making a Trilogy from a Villain in ONE Blade movie? Deacon Frost isn't even a blip on the map in the Blade comics. What the hell makes them think that this is gonna work?

I agree completely, I like Dorff / Deacon Frost, and Norrington, but any Blade spino-off without Blade won't work. I blame all of this rubbish on f'ing goyer. Egotistical prick. If he hadn't made his little power move with Blade Trinity and tried to limit Blade's role in his own bloody flick and subjected us to his pathetic attempt at directing, then Trinity would've been successful and we would've had a part 4.

Although, I did like the reavers in part two a lot and thought that Del Toro did a fantastic job.

A Blade movie without Blade? I'm still pissed about Blade not really being in his own T.V. show. Frost was a cool villian, but I doubt he can carry a movie on his own, much less three of them.

I thought it was agreed the world over that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a terrible movie. I'm begrudgingly impressed that someone admits, not only to linking it, but calling it 'awesome' I'm not trying to sound patronizing here, seriously no offense. Maybe I'll watch it again...probably not, but maybe...

first off, Dorf was amazing in SFW and Backbeat! and yes there have been a lot of vampire movie coming out lately. but is it really that much more than recent years? the only difference is that the vampire movies coming out now are making money and are not just horror movies...WHENS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A MOVIE WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER WASN'T ONLY A VAMPIRE BUT A TRULY EVIL VAMPIRE! this could do that.

I liked the 2nd Blade movie the most but as far as just characters go Dorff was the best villian. The character was REALLY F-ING EVIL and had a really believable goal. This could work

Dorf was awesome in Blade. This could be a good movie, providing the execute it right, and not make it some "interview with a vampire" tripe.

Dorf rules! I still liked his peformance from The Gate (classic 80's horror flick). If Blade is not in this, then hopefully we can get some other Marvel supernatural heroes and villains some screen time. Blade 1 and 2 were awesome. Blade 3 doesn't exist in my book. AWFUL! Don't know how you can have a film called Blade and he is hardly in the film.

@ lilej2

League sucked for the same reasons most of these non-marvel made movies suck...it was nothing like the book what so ever! the book was very dark, and disturbing. all you need to know is that in the book, mr hyde killed the invisible man and fed him to the other leaguers in a salad. everyone ate him because they couldn't see his pieces. why did he do this?? because the invisible man tried to rape Mina Harker. does that sound like the tone they captured in the movie?? yeah, thats why it sucked...

@ teabag yeah, me too man. it was one of the biggest comic book movie travesties ever. no sequel should explain volumes.

@ mr jojo morbius is actually rumored to be the spidey 4 villain, but who knows. also, a werewolf by night movie would be awesome!!!!!!!!! they made a horrible sci-fi channel original Man-Thing movie, but i think that speaks for itself lol and do i need to even mention ghost rider??

@ teabag

that's a REALLY good idea! are you thinking like a tales from the crypt kinda thing?? they could do recurring characters like werewolf by night, morbius, even some original characters, but each episode is its own story. they could even call it Dead of Night. i like it man, good idea!

First and fore most, The first Blade was by far the very best vampire movie ever made but also the best of it's franchise. Blade 2 was very good but Del Toro made it a little bit too sci-fi instead of using gothic vampire lore like Norrington used. So as for "comic book" movies go, the second was the winner but in an all out vampire movie comparison, the first takes the cake!!!

Decan Frost was the best villain we ever got... EVER!!! It doesn't matter which one you name, they all fall short next to Dorf's. And honestly, how the [frick] could anybody bitch about this news??? "I don't want to see a Blade movie without Blade..." IT'S NOT A BLADE MOVIE!!! They say it's a prequel because Frost died in Blade so NATURALLY if they wanna keep the same character, logic would indicate that the upcoming movies would be "prequels" to Blade... DUUUUUUUUH!!! And furthermore, because of the fact that Frost was NEVER in the Blade comics, THERE'S EVEN LESS REASON TO BITCH!!! They are NOT [frick]ing ANYTHING over!!! They're simply using an UTTERLY AWESOME character FROM the Blade films in his own series!!! WHERE THE FLYING [frick] IS THE PROBLEM, HONESTLY?!?!?!?!?!?!

I for one am a die hard vampire movie fan and i couldn't believe of the travesty that was Twitlite!!! That movie was a disgrace to all vampire movies ever made!!! Now you're getting a director that succeeded at being probably the very best vampire film director EVER in [frick]ing HISTORY, that will ACCURATELY make a series of ground breaking vampire films with a character that is already proven to KICK MAJOR [frick]ING ASS!!! WHAT THE [frick] MORE DO YOU WANT?!?!?!?!?! I mean if you don't like vampire movies to begin with, i could understand. This article is news on a vampire film about a character that was used in a comic book movie!!! IT'S ACTUALLY GREAT [frick]ING NEWS TO ANY VAMPIRE FILM FAN!!!!

The way this article was written pushed some of us to hate this idea though. I mean Roar, i like you, i really really do. But you gotta admit that you enjoyed the first Blade as much as anyone here and that the best part of that film WAS Frost. You can shit on Twilight with every reason in the world but that shitty movie should never be concidered to represent the vampire films as much as the Blade and Underworld movies. Having written it more positively, most people here would rejoyce i'm sure. Honestly i would have thought an Irishman of all people would have prefered "The glass being half FULL" LMFAO!!! :))

Yeah but see, thats just..like..your opinion maaan!

I liked Blade..but best vampire movie ever made? Not by a long shot! The movie had some great fight scenes, interesting characters and solid performances. It also had awful script moments, some of the biggest horror movie cliches i have ever seen and Stephen Dorff turning into a giant raspberry at the end.

I think these movies are being made first and foremost just to cash in on the vampire hollywood craze with a character that was good..but what makes him so great in your eyes? He was an eeeevil, ruthless vampire, played with Dorffs usual intensity. But what else? He barley had 2 dimensions. I would rather see a spin off fo David from the Lost Boys or the nomads from Near Dark myself. But, if you feel so strongly about it then im sure many others will too.

Also, im not pushing anyone to hate anything! In my opinion, and many others, this is a waste of time when they could be either trying to revive the Blade franchise or move on with some more horror comic adaptations. Im not saying these movies would automatically suck, just that using a minor character from a movie over 10 years old that already spawned 2 sequels without him even in them, seems like a bad idea to me. You yourself have been adamant that you dont want to see a Magneto prequel, so whats the difference here?

i was gonna say, frost was most definately in the comics. and he was a total badass. maybe not an actual BLADE comic, but he was in the comics.
