BLUE BEETLE Star Xolo Maridueña Teases DCU Cameos; New Trailer Set To Be Released Later Today

Despite the fact it was produced prior to the formation of DC Studios, Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña has strongly hinted at the movie including some big cameos. We also have a trailer teaser for later!

Blue Beetle was originally produced as an HBO Max movie, with that and Batgirl set to launch a new era of lower-budgeted storytelling which would play out on the streaming platform.

It was an intriguing way to expand the DCEU, but when Warner Bros. merged with Discovery, CEO David Zaslav pulled the plug on those plans. Batgirl was scrapped and Blue Beetle ended up being reimagined for the big screen (though it's still unclear what exactly that entailed).

James Gunn has said Blue Beetle will be part of the new DCU, though we'd imagine that's going to hinge on the critical and commercial response to the movie.

According to lead star Xolo Maridueña, fans should go in expecting some big cameos, presumably further cementing the movie's place in the rebooted reality. "I think if you’re a DC fan, there’s going to be more than just one character that you recognize," he tells The Wrap. "I can tell you that."

"This is the first time that ‘Blue Beetle’ is coming to the big screen so that’s going to be amazing," Maridueña continued. "He’s kind of like a fusion of Green Lantern and Iron Man. He has a scarab from outer space that is attached to his body called Khaji da."

According to those who watched Blue Beetle at test screenings, there were no cameos, so these have either been added in reshoots (Amanda Waller showing up to confront this powerful new metahuman would make sense) or Maridueña is referring to characters tied to Jaime Reyes' corner of the DC Universe.

A new trailer for Blue Beetle is also coming later today, and you can watch a teaser for that below.

Blue Beetle arrives in theaters on August 18.

I have a feeling this will do well. At least not as bad as the last 6 movies. This one actually looks good.

@CoHost -

Sliiiiightly disagree. I feel like it will be quite better in terms of quality and enjoyment, but won't do as well as it needs to in terms of BO numbers.

@CoHost - I think it will be more of a success (in terms of profit) but not necessarily more successful in terms of box office.

@CoHost - Is not a matter of quality at this point, is a matter of super hero fatigue, all movies looking the same, the DC brand being close to death, and comic book fans knowing these movies are irrelevant.

It looks like akin to the Ben 10 movies in terms of CGI while ripping off Iron Man, Ant-Man and Shang Chi.

Blue Beetle might end up being a part of the DCU, but not this version. I think Gunn means a rebooted version at some point

@Knightrider - I'm guessing this movie is Clooneyverse, but if it's popular then Xolo will be back as Jaime in the DCU.

@ObserverIO -
It's not going to be popular, it may not even be remotely connected. James Gunn is trying to imply association in order to try and sell the movie.

None of these characters or plots are going to be kept.

@ObserverIO - Clooney's Batman is a fascist?

Also, mainstream doesn't know this character, why would anyone go to watch a movie about a secondary character they dont know and one that looks like a WB or power rangers production 🤔. It's a guaranteed tank. Should have gone straight to HBO as planned. Listen to fans, so many better characters to develop and stories to tell.

@cubichy - Same reason they went to GotG? Your mentality is why we get so many Batman movies and Spidey movies, or why they kept shitting out mediocre X-movies. Mainstream doesn't need to know a character, just have a fun movie with decent writing and characters. I would confidently say that this is going in the toilet, but it isn't because people don't know the character, rather because the writing and entire production looks cheap and crappy.

@Deklipz - disagree, guardians were more widely known that bue beetle 🪲. It was also a unique time, where the public was clamoring for more mcu content,I belive a GOT movie would tank today. Good graphics is not a guaranteed hit, it's word of mouth and social media and being a known IP is often critical, not always, but often. We the fans are sick 😫 of dogshit dcu and mcu movies.

@cubichy - you seem to be living in an alternate reality if you think GotG were more well known by mainstream audiences when it came out than they are of BB now. They weren’t and you’re ignoring that to pretend to make a point that’s lost because you’re full of shit.

The whole anime sword scene in the trailer looked stupid af and it overall the earlier trailer looked CW quality. Kids a good actor but a LOT of the cast are not. Fine for TV, not a cast I would pay to see in a theater.

Mighty Morphing Power Rangers are not even a thing anymore....this was bad idea to go with this version of Blue Beetle.

and it's got George Lopez in it so it has a "Shark Boy and Lava Girl" vibe too!

Deklipz - 7/11/2023, 12:16 PM
@SteelGunZ - Not a thing? There a. brand new series coming to Netflix this fall, movies in development, and it’s aired new series consistently for almost 30 years. How is that ‘not a thing’?

@SteelGunZ - No offense. I don’t still watch the show and never did in just don’t live under a rock. And if you *were* saying that then you should have actually stated what you meant since what you typed wasn’t that.

@Deklipz - Gotcha and i'm not gonna go back and forth with you,

But me saying "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers are not even a thing anymore" is the same as me saying " the MAJOR FAN BASE and NOSTALGIA is not the way it was a few years ago", I was just saying nicely for you.

Take care

They are getting desperate knowing this film is going to be a box office bomb, so now they are resorting to teasing cameos, pathetic.

It'll probably be a lukewarm hit here. I can see a great appeal for the lower age groups here. That costume does look really good too in most shots. That's a tough one to pull off. Great job by the wardrobe department here.

This movie will BOMB big time at the BOX OFFICE. You fans who hold out hope for this aren't looking at the big business picture. FLASH was a known DCU IP and shit the bed at the BO. This looks like a young Mexican Iron Man movie. You guys will support it but General Audiences will see this as another DC movie to skip
