BREAKDOWN: The 2 Sides of Captain America: Civil War

BREAKDOWN: The 2 Sides of Captain America: Civil War

Here's my breakdown of the 2 sides and as to why these should be the 2 sides, if I am mistaken feel free to add something!

WARNING: This is a long read... with no pictures, but short sentences, so if you want to see my line up, it is at the end, but don't disagree if you haven't read the research I've gathered for the MCU characters to explain the line up.

We all know that CIVIL WAR, as a term,  is a rift that divides a group into 2 factions, with opposite different ideas, in our case we have two sides that agree or disagree on an Act:

The Superhuman Registration Act

(Wait, why am I explaining this to you like you're new to MARVEL comic books? It's simple, I am trying to interconnect the character's ideals to explain why they would accept or reject the act, calm down keyboard warriors)

This act opens of the active participation of the government as the main control of superhuman activity, this means that superhumans must work as a police force, always checking in whenever they go to buy groceries, lasers, condoms or something likewise, they are not free whatsoever, they just can't go roaming around choosing what mission to attack, they must first ask the government if they give them permission to act upon the situation.  As quoted below from the Marvel Database:

"It enabled the government to monitor all powered individuals and was drafted to facilitate the government's licensing and/or employment of individuals who were actively using their powers. The powered individual had to fulfill some requirements or meet some criteria before they were allowed to fully use their abilities and gain legal authorization to continue to use their abilities to fight crime. Government employment was not mandatory, though it was available to those who wished to take it."

Now this counters alot of the ideals of our beloved superheroes of the MCU, let me breakdown theirs:

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Captain America
Believes in freedom, in what is right, so no corrupted power would overtake the freedom of people and he follows the righteous path; now of course, he would be the most active candidate in favor of the act, but no, he chooses to fight, to fight for the freedom of his superhero friends, so no government makes them stand down, not when they fight for the world's safety.

Distrust of organizations after S.H.I.E.L.D.'s downfall, now of course this will not help him trust the government's actions.

- "Every time someone tries to win a war before it starts, innocent people die, everytime." - AoU

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Iron Man

-  Believes in power, money and of course, prostitutes, JK, but following the events of Age of Ultron, his weapons being used by the Ten Rings, resulting in casualties, such as Sokovia's mass murder, he would feel GUILT, and would definitely agree upon the Act.

-  He believes that superheroes should follow registration, but upon his acts? Maybe he is taking into account the events of The Winter Soldier, as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s downfall, as an example of superhero-supporting organizations running free and causing deaths.

He is also hunting down Bucky, but we'll get into that later.

- "I'm sick of watching people pay for our mistakes." - AoU trailer #2

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Scarlet Witch
Has an immense hatred for Tony Stark, she would not believe and agree upon his ideals, not even after Pietro's death, caused by... who? Ultron, created by... who? Tony Stark.

Aside from that, she is one of the first enhanced superheroes, so I don't believe she accepts this Act, ever since her freedom was taken from her since she was very young.

-  In Civil War, it's TOO possible that she will blame Stark for Ultron and Pietro's death, something among the lines of

"...registration is the only way we can redeem ourselves from our mistakes!" - Tony
"... our mistakes? OUR mistakes? OUR?!" - Wanda

" Ultron doesn't believe in life, everything he sees is death, where do you think he gets that from?"  - AoU

__________________________________________________________________________________
  • Black Widow
-  Was forced by an organization to kill, become sterile and become an agent, then she worked for another organization, S.H.I.E.L.D., which turned out to be corrupt; she even had the government by the balls in The Winter Soldier, I don't think she will agree upon the act.

-  Helps Captain America in everything he does, she is like his sidekick, their friendship was too developed on The Winter Soldier, which is a factor that will affect in the S.R.A. choice.

-  "You're not gonna put me in prison. You're not going to put any of us in a prison. You know why? Because you need us. Yes, the world is a vulnerable place, and yes we help make it that way, but we're also the ones best qualified to defend it. So if you want to arrest me, arrest me. You'll know where to find me."  - CAP: The Winter Soldier movie

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Falcon
-  War retired veteran, believes in the freedom of the people in America, Captain America's second best pal, would definitely help Captain America in his opinions.

- Saw how the world was affected by Ultron, and you think he'll let that slip by? You think he will let Tony Stark have his ways? He knows what is right from wrong.

- "You're going after him."
" You don't have to come with me."
"I know, when do we start?" - CAP: The Winter Soldier

__________________________________________________________________________________
  • War Machine       (rox)

  - The Falcon of Iron Man, to be honest, he is Tony Stark's friend, and he has had his ways with the military... hell he even fought Tony and stole his suit to stop him from acting as an independent force.

- I believe that his friendship with Tony and his support for the government will only aid his choice in the S.R.A.

His actions on Iron Man 2 serve as a quote itself.

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Ant Man

-  The man himself, after being released from prison in 'Ant Man', he joins forces with Hank Pym, his maniac mentor, who wants to steal the Ant Man suit, but let me take speculation here:

He fights Yellowjacket in Ant-Man and defeats him bla-bla like any other movie, but they are on his daughter's ROOM, he is putting his daughter at risk after getting involved in Hank Pym's problems, do you think he'll let that happen? Letting superheroes roam around putting people in danger?

-  He wants redemption, and he will seek it with the S.R.A.

" My days of breaking into places and stealing stuff are over." - Ant Man trailer

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Vision
-  He believes in what is right, he is in the side of life, he also has the memories of J.A.R.V.I.S., so you think he'll let another Ultron happen? Do you think he will betray his creator?

-  He would do anything required for the human race to survive, and the S.R.A. will make him support it, and with him as one of the creations of Stark, he would help Tony not get arrested by the government.

- His rift with Scarlet Witch would be as a parallel of Reed Richards and Susan Storm from the comics, having to fight each other for ideals, breaking their love, making them suffer the consequences of war.

"Humans are odd. They think order and chaos are somehow opposites and try to control what won't be. But there is grace in their failings. I think you missed that." - AoU

__________________________________________________________________________________
  • Hawkeye
-  His family was in risk after Ultron was set out to the world, and he even retired to help them; but in Civil War, his position as a superhero would be put into custody, maybe not being able to be with his family.

- But then again, he would do anything to keep his family safe, so maybe he will be in favor of the S.R.A., who knows, it's debatable.  Just remember, if we want a really badass scene of Hawkeye shooting Ant man in an arrow then we need him in favor.

"It's the last project." - Age of Ultron

__________________________________________________________________________________
  • The Winter Soldier
-  He was held in custody by HYDRA, an organization with power, and made him kill alot of targets, alot, including Tony's parents, which will put him in an opposite position.

- As to why he is being hunted down by Black Panther, then maybe he had assassinated Black Panther's father, this would be a nice flashback scene, but hey, it's just speculation.

- He will side with Captain America, he's his friend, until the end of the line; but he is such an important chess piece in this movie, he should be taken into prison for his crimes, but CAP will do anything to protect him.

"YOU'RE MY MISSION!" - CAP: The Winter Soldier movie

__________________________________________________________________________________
  • Black Panther

Reports say he is hunting down the Winter Soldier, then maybe he will begin siding with Tony Stark, but he is an independent force, he is the ruler of Wakanda, he is BLACK PA- ok I'll stop, but he would be required to leave Wakanda without a ruler, to serve the government, then again he would agree to aid CAP, but with tension with Bucky.

"Rawr." - Black Panther Issue #24

__________________________________________________________________________________

  • Spider-Man

Why is he such an important part of Civil War?
Why?
He is a new vigilante of New York that helps people, and is viewed as someone good, having him, with the support of the people, in your side, is really [frick]ing vital.

HIM being with Tony Stark will make people like "Holy crap, Spider-Man is right, we should accept the act and hunt down the others."

His ideals are responsibility, honesty and power, and no matter what, he will do anything to help people, so they don't end up like Uncle Ben.

My honest prediction is that he will begin on Tony's side, but then on the final battle he will see the civilians in danger, and make them stop, and see reason, that is why Spider-Man is such a vital part of Civil War.

"With great power comes great responsibility." - Uncle Ben on the 2017 re-reboot of Spiderman

So, in summary, the sides would be these:

Anti-registration:

Captain America/Black Panther/Scarlet Witch/The Winter Soldier/ Black Widow/ Falcon

Pro-registration:

Iron Man/ Spider-Man/ Hawkeye/ Ant-Man/ War Machine/ Vision

6 vs. 6

Seems right... any thoughts?

Ant-Man should be the one who switches sides imo.

At first, he'll follow Pym into the Pro-Reg side, but when he sees all the crap they're doing, he'll leave his mentors side and go with Cap and Co.

I think they can do just about anything with Ant-Man, since he doesn't get a sequel in phase 3.

I think Vision will be the one who stays neutral and just watches from the sidelines. He's too OP to be on anyone's side, just like Hulk.

Don't believe Hawkeye would side with pro registration. He deliberately kept his family of the grid, signing up for it would put bullseyes on the Barton family. Don't think it's a clearcut as you think. At least I hope not otherwise it'll be stark and douche bags like general Ross against cap and the idea behind civil war is that it's two sides dealing with a catastrophe in two very different ways not a wrong and a right way.

Ok, first of all, no, the government does NOT protect Hawkeye's family. Fury set that farm up, and deliberately kept it out of Shield's files, which means the government knows nothing about the Barton family. So I don't see him supporting something that might expose them to the outside world. But, frankly, it's not like he would be required to register anyway. He doesn't have superpowers. Neither does Black Widow, for that matter. They both just have exceptional skills. Now, maybe the Registration Act will cover them by including a provision about non-powered people being vigillantes or working with powered people or something similar.

Now, about Winter Soldier. NO, it has NOT been established that he killed Tony's parents. So many of you seem to believe that. All that was shown in TWS was that Hydra arranged their "accident." Then Fury is shown, so since Bucky killed Fury, fanboys assume he killed the Starks too. This is NEVER stated definitevely, it is just an assumption. So we have no idea if Tony will be after Bucky. (And frankly, I have my doubts about that theory. When Bucky killed someone, it was always clearly an assassination, not designed to look like an accident. For example, the Iranian scientist that Romanoff protected. When Hydra used Bucky, they wanted it known that an assassination took place.)

I also disagree with this idea that Rogers would protect Bucky from prison. I don't agree. He would surely protect Bucky from death, but Rogers is a big believer in the punishment fitting the crime (that is his initial reason for opposing Insight, that it would kill people before they committed crimes.) So I think he would be okay with Bucky doing prison time for all the people he murdered. He might argue for a reduced sentence, maybe even commutation based on the brainwashing. But I don't see him going so far as to actually fight to keep a murderer out of jail. Remember, in the comic, he accepts his own jail time, despite still believing he is right.

As for the rest, I basically agree, except for Hawkeye as I said (and frankly, I think you kind of pushed that just to see Ant-Man on an arrow. They could always do that before the split happens.)

Oops, I forgot Vision. First, no romance has been established between him and Scarlet Witch (and hopefully never will.) And I see him being mainly neutral. He is not Jarvis anymore.
