CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Plot speculation (Possible spoiler warning)

By connecting the dots between interviews and the trailer, here's my breakdown of how Civil War will play out, find out after the jump!

Editorial Opinion

SPOILER WARNING
Sources for interviews and the trailer are at the end of the article.

We have all watched that fantastic trailer again and again and again, don't deny it.[1]

But what can we speculate on the plot?

These are the things we know for sure. [2]
- Steve & Sam are looking for Bucky.
- An international incident involving the Avengers causes teh government to step in.
- Zemo is pulling the strings.
- The Avengers go at each other.

Now, bear with me, "Zemo is pulling the strings"? How does that play out? Well as we know Thunderbolt Ross is back, as a new character with different objectives and personality, as the actor has stated: " He’s cornering the Avengers politically now, he’s out-maneuvering them."

But why? Because of the Hulk incident? Or is Zemo giving him a window of opportunity to step in and take care of the Avengers while they work on their master plan, sacrificing Cross Bones in the process? Zemo planning a new world order like Hydra? [3]

Also, why are they on an airport? Is Bucky planning to leave the country? How did the avengers find each other and fight? Why is Spider-Man involved? [4][5]

Here's my take:

- Movie kicks off with Peggy Carter's funeral, all of the Avengers are there minus Iron Man, they are called for duty afterwards.

- Turns out Bucky's location has been compromised, he's been hiding in an african IFID facility and Cross Bones wants to kill him so no threats to Hydra are present.

-  Cap goes there with Falcon and decide to help him escape, notice the death security guards on the ground? That was X bones's goons.

- Bucky goes into hiding.

-  X bones has been spotted near an african market, near Wakanda, he's using this as a trap.
- They turn crossbones in, and in his trial he blows up with a suicide vest, hence 'Hail Hydra', this gives a window for opportunity for Ross to step in and make the avengers fight each other.

- Notice the red streaks on his hair? He has tested the super hero serum on himself with side effects, failure, and he needs a time window so he can become Red Hulk to aid Zemo in the new world order.

- Bucky is still in hiding, Cap needs to help him, but with the accords problem Cap manages to escape capture. (Footage not shown, Captain is seen on the run and Iron Man finds him)
- Ross decides to call in Iron Man to capture Captain, they fight in the process, Cap escapes (Footage not shown)

- Cap goes into hiding with the Avengers, Tony decides to use double agent Black Widow to capture them.

- They find Bucky in Germany, hence the 'grey t shirt' Cap wears with the jacket and in the warehouse, they plan on taking him out of the country, but don't know where to, they help Bucky escape from Hydra wanting to kill Bucky, hence Cap holding that helicopter that has a machine gun, and takes it down, somehow Falcon takes down the other heli shooting at Cap.

- They get Bucky onto an airport, but guess who finds them? Guess who saw that near his country there was a violent mass death count? Hence blaming Bucky for being Hydra, winter soldier, not knowing he's not that anymore,  and Hydra being responsible for the explosion.

- Cap escapes.
- Tony convinces Panther of joining in, and Spidey too, considering that Bucky MAY have assassinated his parents, who were probably SHIELD agents, we don't know for sure.
- Bucky BARELY escapes, and they have no way of getting Bucky out of the country on public transport, they need private transport but don't know where, they need help to get him out.
- Black Widow steps in to help in a private plane in a private airport, she says that she doesn't believe in Tony's accords anymore and wants to leave the country with the avengers, says she knows a place.
- With a plan to avoid more Panther issues, hence recruiting Ant Man for some sneaking in the airport, they were about to leave with Bucky on the plane:

- Turns out Black Widow was a double agent, this was a plan to CAPTURE them and BUCKY without airport CASUALTIES.

- Rhodey may be a casualty, which will bring Tony to want to kill Bucky, also after his parents's death.
- Somehow they find a place for Bucky to stay in a private message from an anonymous source, they don't trust it after what happened, so they decide to go there before they get ambushed again, turns out it's Red Skull's old facility, where the other Avengers were called to too, they think they were called by each other and fight again.

- Before Bucky kills Tony (Remember he's not all there[6]) Cap says that this is not worth it, they make amendments and enter the facility to see who sent the message.
- It was Zemo, and Ross is there, who transforms into Red Hulk, turns out they were fooled all along, giving time for Ross to keep testing and plan on the new world order without the Avengers, the Avengers fight them and win, somehow with a casualty; Cap retires, the government is not the same after what Ross did, the Accords are no more, but no more core avengers. Bucky turns himself in. Cap goes to live a simple life with Agent 13.

I don't know if you agree on this analysis, what do you think?

nice analysis of what could be, but i have a different take on it. Heres what i think i doubt Tony would follows orders especially from the government just because since its been shown he's been against following their orders in past films. So what makes him follow theirs now? Could be the events of AOU, but i doubt that the way tony left the avengers HQ. I also doubt anyone would be killed off. Like seriously when was the last time an important character was killed off in any marvel movie? And no quicksilver doesn't count because he wasn't that or important of a character at all. He was just there just because. I don't think Crossbones would kill himself i do think he set up bombs that went off in a mission that the avengers were at and the avengers were framed because they were in that area and were the only one spotted and there were witness. And i don't think it was Bucky who murder tony parents i think it was Just Hydra that did it and Bucky had nothing to do with it. And i doubt Bucky would even try to kill tony since i the trailers they showed he isn't like that anymore and plus cap wouldn't let that happen either or let it get that far.
That all being said i do like that Ross could be Red-Hulk now be an interesting thing and could set up a new franchise of Hulk films. I also like how the trailers showed BP and Bucky have some type of history maybe. This could break up the teams or bring them closer together since they still have an enemy to defeat so i think they still will be together but stronger this time and will go more against the government and do things their own way more after the film ends. Thats my 2 cents on this film. But once again Dope ideas.

Good speculation, I'm not sure where Spider-Man fits in (if much at all), but the way I see it, the film goes down like this:

1) Peggy's death
2) Crossbones in Wakanda - goes wrong
3) Ross presents the Accords to Cap's Avengers, with Stark showing up as a sponsor and advocate.
4) Cap and Falcon (and SW) leave the Avengers, who are tasked with finding Bucky (maybe he's framed for another assassination).
5) Both Cap's team and Tony's team (and BP) track Bucky to Germany. Ant-Man is enlisted to help get their stuff back.
6) Cap finds Bucky first, and tries to get him out.
7) Both teams fight at the airport, but Cap's team escapes, while Tony's breaks up (Rhodey out of commission, BW has a change of heart).
8) SPECULATION -- Some how Cap's side figures out Zemo is behind it all, while Tony recruits Spider-Man to help him finish his mission.
9) Cap tracks down Zemo while Tony tracks down Cap.
10) Cap, Tony, and Bucky have a final showdown, which Tony loses, but they convince him that Zemo is behind the attacks, and they work together to stop Zemo.

Seems pretty accurate but one thing to add, that first shot of Iron Man in the trailer(where he opens up the doors) is probably right before his fight with the Winter Soldier and Cap. You can see behind Cap a guy with a gun and it is most likely bucky from what I gathered, also Tony already has bruises from a fight and the architecture of the building looks awfully similar to the set piece where they battle at the end of the trailer. The trailer sets it up to think that the shot is early in the film where you see Tony for the first time in the movie, but if you analyze it closely I'm almost 100% sure that it is near the end. Especially focus on the soldier behind Cap, there's only one person there and it doesn't seem he is cornering cap from behind, plus the gun looks similar to the one Buck picked up in a brief shot in the trailer. Sorry if that was a bit convoluted, I'm not the best writer.

Thanks, I think it is a really important detail because it changes the context entirely. Initially I thought this is where the government sends Tony in to Reason with Cap because they'd rather take him alive. I really like that idea, but as I pointed out that is most likely not their first meet, so I wonder what the heck their first meet in the film will ACTUALLY look like. Also, Cap, Buck, and Tony up against Red Hulk, just the way you put it in chronological order it really seems a reality now, I hope that is generally how the third act goes, even if that means Ross will be part of Hydra. Really cool concept, I was hoping for Ross to turn in to Red Hulk but I honestly couldn't picture how, but the way you set it up in your analysis I think it would work very naturally in the film.

Why would the red hulk be in the movie, that be awesome but that wouldn't work

@StoneHex104 - That was a very interesting speculation with a lot of intriguing points made. However, there are a few things that don't really sound realistic in my opinion, such as the part where Tony seemingly convinces/recruits a 15 year old Spidey to join his cause. I don't really see it playing out that way. I mean, it just seems a bit off for Tony to be recruiting this 15 year old boy into this little "revenge squad".

Love the theory and all the bits that everyone else added...I really do think red hulk is making an appearance or why else feature Ross..especially since our favorite green enforcer will be chillin with Thor! Either way can't wait, and good article man!

Umm........no. Doesn't really fit the rumors (not that I believe the rumors are totally accurate, but there is often a grain of truth to them), and doesn't really fit the synopsis.

It won't open with a funeral, but with an action scene, probably the event with Crossbones that is the final straw that leads to the Accords. There is an explosion during this that creates civilian casualties and a lot of damage. (And while this event will probably be in Africa, near Wakanda, I don't think it will actually be in Wakanda, just because the world still doesn't seem to know that Wakanda even exists yet.) Then there is the funeral, while the Accords are signed by various countries. And yes, Zemo and Hydra will be pulling the strings (this is already being shown on Agents of Shield. Coulson was supposed to attend a meeting with the president and others about what to do about enhanced humans and Inhumans, along with Hydra agent Mallick, who is a presidential advisor.)

I'm not going to speculate on all the rest yet, as far as a beginning to end storyline is concerned. It seems clear that Cap is given a chance to go along with the Accords and declines. At some point he finds and captures Bucky, and Bucky finally knows him. There is clearly a manhunt for Bucky, and Natasha tries to get Cap to stay out of it. However, if she is a double agent, I think it is ultimately Tony that she will betray, probably out of friendship with both Steve and especially Hawkeye. My guess is that Black Panther is after Bucky, and also may be trying to keep the rest of the world out of Wakanda, which is why he has been described as a free agent while being shown as part of Team Iron Man.

It is way too early to speculate on the rest, on why they end up at an airport and other stuff. I actually don't think Rhodey will die, if he did I don't think they would have shown that footage. He is obviously taken out of the fight though, and may be seriously injured. I definitely don't see Red Hulk appearing. I will say I can see it ending a couple of different ways. One is all the Avengers joining together to fight Zemo and Hydra, and that is it. Another is that they do join up to fight Zemo, but after that, after Cap thinks about it, he decides to turn himself in. That happened in the comics. He goes to jail while the rest of his team agrees to abide by the new rules or at least agrees to not interfere in world events. Infinity War will start with him still in prison, but he will either be released or release himself when he realizes that he is needed. I don't think he dies. I could be wrong about all of this, but I would be willing to bet that Cap lives.
