How CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Can Connect The Entire MCU

How CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Can Connect The Entire MCU

We all know that a full on TV/movie mashup is quite unlikely, but could there be a subtler connection between the two divisions of Marvel? Hit the jump to read my take...

Look, I get it. There's a lot going on in Captain America: Civil War, and fantasizing that every superhero in the TV division is going to show up is almost 100% a waste of time. But that doesn't mean this movie can't do a lot for the MCU, and be the first movie to actively acknowledge what's going on on the smaller side of things.

1. Agent Carter

Via set photos, we now know that Peggy Carter will have died presumably by the beginning of this movie. While this is definitely sad, it does offer a chance to acknowledge the Agent Carter TV show, which by this point will be two seasons in. If a eulogy is shown, a line about her S.S.R. days under Chief Dooley would be appropriate, and even something as simple as burying her next to Edwin Jarvis would be a nice nod to their friendship. Peggy had a great dynamic with both of these characters in the show, and both people were important to her. She's noted for founding S.H.I.E.L.D., but her heroic days in it's parent agency should be touched upon as well.

2. Daredevil

While Nelson & Murdock is a very small firm in Daredevil, a lot of time will have passed between season one and season two, and some time will pass between season two and Captain America: Civil War as well. Plus, these guys are supposed to be some of the best lawyers in the country. I don't think it's much of a stretch to think that ol' Steve Rogers will have heard of them by this time, and recruit the two of them to be his lawyers after losing the Superhero Civil War to Iron Man. Even if we don't get to see him suit up as Daredevil, seeing Matt Murdock defend the first Avenger would be a sight to see (no pun intended), however briefly.

It's tough to say how Jessica Jones could connect since we haven't seen her series, but I think we'd all flip over just Matt, wouldn't we?

3. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

No, the beautiful Constance Zimmer isn't playing anyone from the comics--that we know of, anyway. It's been hinted that Rosalind Price is just an alias, but I'm not here for speculation. Even if she is just a made up character, she can still serve quite a unique purpose in Captain America: Civil War while also making an obvious connection to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I couldn't find the original article, but I read a scoop awhile back that stated that the Accords, mentioned in the Ant-Man post-credits scene, are actually completely taking the place of the Superhuman Registration Act. The Accords would be a body of governed officials who decide when and when not to enlist the services of the Avengers. Since Ms. Price is seen to be quite up there in ranks (writing the President's speech??), it would make perfect sense for her to be a part of this committee. Doesn't even need to have much dialogue, really.

Well, there you go, folks, a few ideas for y'all to munch on. Is it cool? Is it shit? Lemme know, bro.

How will I like Civil War to end? At the last 2 minutes of the movie, bring in every heroes that has been established in MCU, and end it will all of them fighting each other. Some of them could be teased in AOS, Daredevil S2 or Jessica Jones.

Infinity War part 1 will mark the end of Civil War, with probably a big hero(possibly Captain America or Iron Man) dying.

Anyways great article, loved the ideas.

Ummm......the "Accords" is not some kind of World Security Council-type committee that will decide when to use the Avengers. An "accord" between two nations is basically a treaty. So my guess is that a large group of nations (most of Europe, Canada, the U.S., etc.) will sign these Accords, which will spell out specific rules for superheroes to follow, and might set up an organization to help decide when they intervene, although I think each individual country will decide that. Those superheroes who agree to this will be given immunity from prosecution and from civil liability (this is the "protection" that Rogers mentions to Stark in the trailer that we have heard about.) Those who don't will be considered vigilantes in those countries that sign the Accords.

To me all the movies have to do is acknowledge the fact that they exist. A nod here and there will go a long way to connecting tv with movies.

Yeah, when it comes to the Accords and what they actually are, what Lhornbk said.

And for what it's worth, I DO think it's possible we'll get little easter eggs along the lines of the first idea - a subtle lingering shot on Peggy Carter being buried next to Jarvis (though that'd probably confuse the general audience, since the AI JARVIS is the only one they're aware of) or a eulogy mentioning Chief Dooley or something.

But beyond that, I seriously doubt we'll see any actual cameos or anything from the TV side. The logistics, contracts, and timeframe and all that are just too convoluted, especially when both the film and TV sides are run by two entirely different divisions. It'd be a hell of a lot of work for very little pay-off. I just don't see it happening until Infinity War, and even then it'll likely only be VERY minor cameos.

@GliderMan
Could you put a spoiler warning? Not everyone on this site likes to read spoilers.

Some nice ideas in this article.

I would expect the ATCU and Inhumans to be involved or referenced in some way.

SHIELD and the Secret Warriors will probably not feature but I hope the general Inhumans idea is talked about, referenced and built on - perhaps some new (or AoS introduced) Inhumans can be responsible for the initial international incident that the film synopsis talks about?

While I'm pretty sure it won't happen, I'd love to see the Netflix characters at least get referenced in CW...
