During Fandango's Captain America: Civil War set visit, Robert Downey Jr. spoke on the upcoming film, and he says he thinks it's the "Godfather" of superhero films. "This is the Godfather of superhero movies!" Joe Russo then chimed in, and agreed with RDJ, saying "Civil War" is like Godfather because it's "a sprawling film with a lot of characters that tells very intricate stories” – and says that if The Winter Soldier was a political thriller, Civil War is more like a psychological thriller." He then continued, and revealed the films that were referenced a lot on set. "The movies we've been referencing a lot on this one are Se7en, weirdly. Se7en, Fargo, just as far as we're not making comparisons in terms of quality we're just talking influences."

Aside from the references, Joe Russo revealed the Captain America: Civil War is far bigger than Captain America: The Winter Soldier. in terms of storytelling. "[It's] bigger than anything [Marvel Studios] has done yet. You can see how many people we've got out here, once you start trying to trigger arcs for everybody it becomes a very big, sprawling, epic film. This is much, much bigger than Winter Soldier."

Considering the fact that this film holds many more characters than "Winter Soldier", many wondered just how much this film will really focus on Captain America's character development. Chris Evans got the chance to speak on that, and he revealed that this film will showcase one of Captain America's greatest dilemmas. Is he a hero making the right decisions? Are those decisions hero-like? If so, how do they cope with the law? Evans thoughts are as followed. "Ultimately he knows he has a good heart. But this one, there’s no clear bad guy, and I think that’s far more parallel to the struggles we go through in our current political state. There’s logic to both sides, and where do you bend? Where’s the compromise? What’s the goal? I think Cap’s struggling because every time he has fallen in line, and has been a soldier, and has taken orders and leaned on the structure of society, it’s kinda turned on him." He then added, "I think he ultimately feels the safest hands are his own, because at least he can trust them. But again, that’s not gonna work for the masses. So it’s the first time he really doesn’t know what the right answer is." Stay tuned to ComicBookMovie.com for much more. For now, share your thoughts in the comment section below!
