Ever since actor Derek Luke was revealed to have a role in 'Captain America: The First Avenger', people have been throwing out all kinds of crazy rumors and suggestions for who he might be playing, well now we know for sure.

Wilson Morales over at BlackFilm did some digging and found out that Luke will infact be playing one of the Howling Commandos, Gabe Jones.

This confirms Kevin Fiege's previous statement that the Howling Commandos would indeed make an appearance in the film.

I think it's safe to say that must of us already assumed we would be seeing The Howling Commandos make their big screen debut but this just confirms it for us.
So now we can put the debate to rest and instead we can start throwing out ideas for who's playing the rest of the Howling Commandos, and more interestingly, will we be seeing a younger version of Nick Fury in the movie?

'Captain America: The First Avenger' hits theaters July 22nd

Well that character had to the front runner this guy would play.

I am still not convinced the 'british' soldier is Union Jack that we keep seeing in the screen shots. I think he is more likely to be Percival 'Pinky' Pinkerton.

If Union Jack is in it then maybe he is part of the USO show as well - hence the 'code name' he has.

I need a trailer now!!!!

what is Marvel upto?how much time does it take to cut a 2 minute trailer? This movie gonna fail in the wake of poor promotion.I got it,Thor is more important now but it doesn't mean they can completely forget about Cap TFA.

Random Thought:Maybe Marvel wants to surprise moviegoers, when they discover its a comedy spoof of Inglorious basterds like Tropic Thunder and they don't wish to spoil it with a trailer.

Great catch Comedian!

I've been trying to figure out his role for the longest. I wonder with the relatively known casting of major Howling Commandos, will there be a spin-off of some sort. Either that, or Marvel really are great casters.

I think they're trying to give the howlers as much of an international feel as possible - especially considering the name of the film.

Also gives the howlers a sense of epicness if they are selected from the best soldiers amongst the allied forces. Hence Gabe Jones, Morita and Denier being in there and possibly Pinkerton. Wouldn't surprise me if Klaus and Cohen are in there also and possibly Juniper if they wanna kill someone off early ;o)

It would have been cool to see The Invaders. I have high hopes that Union Jack will turn up.

cool!:)

Jackson is probably reprising his role as Fury. The cosmic cube effects on him somehow and makes him long aged.

Or they could show him as a young man how is protege to Gen. Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones)? That would cool too.

@jerbear and Weneed, The film industry is always about casting a token black. I'll take that vs. having no one in the movie. At least Marvel is open minded. Heck we are going to have a black Asgardian! That's Hot!!
jonedc
jonedc - 3/11/2011, 12:34 PM
one other thing last time I checked blacks were not allowed to fight alongside their fellow white countrymen in WWII...

@jazzman, that's a good point. It would be nice if they could put Isiah Bradley (The black captain America http://marvel.com/universe/Bradley,_Isaiah )...just thinking out loud...

tracydavis001 - 3/11/2011, 1:50 PM
he shouldn't even b in this, he would b a great T'Challa, though marvel is known for letting the same actor play a different character in their movies. just a thought
jazzman
jazzman - 3/11/2011, 1:53 PM
@tracydavis001

Marvel Studio dont let same actor play a different character in their movies. Chris Evan starred in Fantastic Four but thats own by FOX Studio not Marvel Studio.

since Marvel Studio owns both Black Panther and Captain America. you wont see Derek Luke play both Black Panther and Gabe Jones in a Marvel Studio produce movie. if FOX Studio or Sony owned Black Panther maybe yes you might see Derek Luke play that character.
