Grillo follows in the footsteps of Jeff Bridges, Mickey Rourke, Ben Kingsley, Tom Hiddleston, Christopher Eccleston, Tim Roth and Hugo Weaving to play the bad guy in a Marvel Film. Its a great group of actors to join and this role is Grillo's highest profile role to date.

Grillo is understandably stepping up to the plate for a role that is likely to make him a star. To portray Crossbones, the actor has been training rigorously for the past two months, since his casting was confirmed. Grillo is 47 years old and a father of two but has kept in great shape over the years. He will be putting on 20 pounds of muscle for the role and gives a taste of some of the workouts he is doing through his twitter feed. Check them out below.

Above is a picture of Grillo showing his progress.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is scheduled to release on 4th April 2014. Filming begins early next year.

I haven't seen this guy in anything, and I don't know much about Crossbones, but I'm still really looking forward to seeing him in a movie for some reason.

Quite tanned for a white supremacist.

Can't wait to see the first pic of Crossbones, although it won't be for a while.

I was expecting something like:

Tuesday: "Worked way too hard. Puked. Shit pants. Smell made me puke again. Want to die. Is that why he's called 'Crossbones'"?

Wednesday: "Shit pants before workout. No one would look me in the eye".

Thursday: "Gym made me wear diaper. I don't know why they don't think I can control my.......goddammit....shit diaper".

That's how I'd be feeling after the workouts he's describing.

He was in Warrior and The Grey. He has a small role in Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty too.

@loki668

Yeah its a bit much. 2000 crunches every day? Is he playing Leonidas or Crossbones? But dude's legit. In another tweet he said he's training 5 hours ever day.

@marvel72

Gerard Butler's abs were 100% real, no CGI at all.

Check out this behind the scenes video, specially the ending part where you see him shooting a scene from the movie. His body is exactly like it was in the movie.

@bucht

You gonna lay some evidence to that claim or are you content writing anything you feel like about anybody you want?

Wonder Why there hasn't been any Winter Soldier news- nothing at all coming from Sabastian Stan, I hope they aren't gonna recast him that would be completely stupid, what reason would they have to not bring him back, God I hope he returns... For continuity Sake!

@CoolantTek, they're not recasting the role. They already announced he was returning back in July. As for not hearing anything from him, we really haven't heard anything from anyone else. Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Scarlet Johansson, ect. I guess they don't feel the need to talk about it at the moment.

This is probably Grillo's first role where he needed to really get in shape and is most definitely his biggest role, so he wants to talk about it. He's excited.

@toco89...bucht was referring to his character Crossbones who is indeed a white supremacist, in the comics anyway i seriously doubt the guy was trying to say that frank grillo is a white supremacist.

2,000 crunches is highly unnecessary. 4 sets of increasing weight with dumbbell side bends, twice the first week and once the second week (repeat for 3 months), will do the job depending on your genes, weight, and workout regime(part of the Body for Life workout). Example:

15 lbs - lift 12
rest 1 min.
20 lbs - lift 12
rest 1 min.
25 lbs - lift 12
rest 2 min.
lift 20 lbs - lift 12
Immediately switch to crunch into hip lift(or other ab workout) - lift 20 crunches; 20 hip lift

He still looks too small to be playing Crossbones IMO.

...oh well, they made Hardy look big in TDKR. I guess they'll just do the same here. In fact if they took Bane from TDKR and put a Crossbones mask on him, he'd look just like Crossbones from the comics IMO.

@Luminus

This isn't the first time I have read somebody do 2000 crunches a day. I read somewhere that even Christiano Ronaldo does 2000 crunches a day to maintain his six pack.

@Macksimus

I think Hardy totally blew it. He was no where near as big or intimidating as he should have been. Grillo is half an inch taller than Hardy so that itself is a start.

And he isn't finished training yet, he'll surely put on more mass. I have no doubt that he will do better than Hardy.
