If you haven't figured it out by now, this "article" was an April Fool's day joke. Psyche!
On a little known internet news site, the lead Captain America costume designer, Jose Canusee, has revealed the design process behind creating the comic book characters unique look for the big screen. Although most of the interview focused on his past work with movies like Eight Legged Freaks and Power Rangers: The Movie, here's what he had to say about working on The First Avenger: Captain America.
On whether the winged headgear will be included:
"There are two camps. One that wants the wing head and the other that wants an army helmet. A big part of the argument has been what we'd make them out of. Joe (Johnston) is actually on board with my idea of using real Eagle wings because face it - you cant get any more patriotic than that."
Although he wouldn’t reveal more about the final design of Cap's mask, Canusee did say that there will be one important deviation to the look that is sure to shock fans. "You have to remember that this is a different world to the one in which the character was created in the 1940's. We want him to represent the changing face of modern America - the BROWN face. So we’re planning on putting a star on one shoulder, and the Mexican flag on the other. That way, he represents ALL of the Americas and is bound to appeal to a larger audience."
As for whether a change like this will indeed be an upset to the fans:
"No, I think that we live in a world now where people want to see more than just Captain AMERICA. At one point there was even talk of changing the design of the shield so that it featured the flag of every country...the studio put their foot down with that idea though as they want to focus on the US. Cuba, Mexico, Brazil - these are all South America countries that will have their flags integrated into the costume, one way or the other. This is a movie for American's made by American's."
