"
In my head, I got the part [laughs]," says John Krasinski in response to a question from Conan O'Brien while appearing on the latter's TBS talk show. The two are talking about just how close Krasinski came to landing the role of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematice Universe.
When asked to describe his screen test, Krasinski reflects, "
It was a big deal for me becuase first of all, I love those Marvel movies, I love superheroes, I love imagination. So when they asked me to test, they actually allowed me to put on the suit, I was on a set, it was all very interesting. I feel like as I'm talking about this someone from Marvel [mimes shooting a blow dart]....I'm actually not suppoused to talk about this... but the only bummer of it was as I was putting on the suit and thinking this is so amazing; I got about right to my waist, I was still shirtless and feeling pretty good about myself - [keep in mind] I wasn't 13 Hours [John Krasinski] yet. I felt pretty good. And all of a sudden, Chris Hemsworth walks by in his Thor suit and went, 'Hey, mate.' And I went, 'I'm good. This is stupid [mimes taking off pants]. I'm not Captain America, it's fine. "
Of course, Chris Evans would go on to land the role back in March 2010 and the rest is history. A popular fan theory is that Marvel's decision to go with Evans over Krasinski is what prompted Krasinski 's wife, Emily Blunt (Jon Favreau's first choice for the role) to drop out of playing Black Widow in Iron Man 2.
