Original Captain America Screenwriters Already On Board For Sequel?

A new report claims that the sequel to Marvel Studios' Captain America: The First Avenger is moving forward, with the original screenwriters already on board. Check it out!

While Marvel Studios has various scripts in the works, including ones for Ant-Man, Iron First, Doctor Strange, and Black Panter, the possibility of the studio hiring screenwriters to pen a sequel for Joe Johnston's yet-to-be-released Captain America: The First Avenger should come as no surprise. With Latino Review reporting the claim, they say verbatim:

Stephen McFeely & Christopher Markus, the screenwriters who penned "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER" just got hired to write the sequel for Marvel Studios! Obviously the sequel is going to be present day and take place after THE AVENGERS. I don't have any more details at the moment except that the writers got hired so stay tuned for an official announcement.

During last year's San Diego Comic-Con, if my memory serves me correctly, I believe director Joe Johnston stated offhandedly that sequels for Captain America: The First Avenger would follow different popular storylines from the 40's era. And with actor Sebastian Stan (Bucky) signed on for multiple films, and the new dark direction, it's most likely the sequel would include Winter Soldier.

What do you think? Anyhow, while the first footage has been well-received, Captain America: The First Avenger is scheduled to invade theaters July 22, in 3D!

Over-confidence much? Its sounds like Marvel is pulling a GL/DC *already getting a sequel ready before the first movie comes out*

Even if the movie bombs there will be a sequel. They paid Chris Evans a ton of money for a 6 film deal. Marvel is going to make sure hes in 6 films. And even if they don't complete the 6 film deal they'll still make a sequel to give the franchise another shot if the first flick bombs.

great! winter soldier! and crossbones! and of course red skull planing it all! epic win! although they need to alter the costume a bit more for modern times but they will fix it to perfection in avengers...

Oh we knew that a sequel was coming, never doubted it.
Anyways isnt it kinda strange we havent seen the comic con footage with Skull & the cube yet? If someone has the audio for that, someone MUST have the actual video right?

Makes me wonder if this leaves off as a cliffhanger...also wonder if Avengers acts as sort of a Cap 1.5 or if this picks up as a flashback...so many possibilities.

@Frogsplash45 Cap & Thor arguably has better villains gallery than Iron Man. Cap has Baron Zemo, Crossbones and Serpent Society. Thor has Ulik, Surtur, Malekith and Desak. Baron Zemo seems smarter than Red Skull. Desak, Surtur, and Ulik are more powerful than Loki (actually I see team up between Loki and Thor against these super threats)

Of course they're going the Winter Soldier route, they wouldn't even have Bucky in the first movie if they weren't planning on going that route.

@Frogsplash45 Yes, can't argue with you on that. They need to be successful not just for the sequels but all Marvel movies from Avengers to Dr Strange.

they'll probably (if they still have a good relationship with him) have Whedon go over and 'polish' the script again

If the movie's an A-plus, then this is good news. Until I see the film, I can't quote whether this is good or bad news.

Hello, art department? Hey, how are you... good. Look, I know this isn't that important in the big scheme of things, but I was wondering who's idea it was to turn the shield so that the star is crooked? Like a devil star. Oh, ok. Just shakin things up a bit, huh. Awesome. You have a nice day, and good luck on that recast for the sequel.

Hiring a writer is an important part of the production process if you want to get things rolling quickly. I don't think Cap will bomb. But if it does, they can simply scrap the script and that's it.

If they wait to see if the first is a success THEN start writing, there's going to be a big time gap. Not saying that it's a bad thing, but the sooner you can milk a successful franchise, the better, right?

Grif is saying something positive? Whoa, pinch me! LOL! Peace, man! :P

@NeoBaggins:
You're talking about... ummm, what, exactly?

What's with Hollywood thinking about sequels to Green Lantern or Captain America, first they gotta see if these movies will be good or bomb.

We are not in 1990, after amazing movies like Iron Man, TIH and what we've seen of THOR and CAP, seriously, there is just no way in hell.

It's a shame we won't get a chance to see some more WWII Cap. Maybe they can BUT I am guessing it woulf confuse the hell out of alot of people who had seen The Avengers.
Coldblood6

I have to say that for the sequel I'm envisioning a story in the present (post Avengers) with flashbacks to an adventure in WWII; the two stories having some connection.

@ Unscrew.
Hilarious dude! Well done!

@AsainAvenger
I agree. I think these studios are getting ahead of themselves. On the other hand it may be that according to their calculations and research these movies must be profitable so its worth the go ahead. In fact if you look at worldwide box-office grosses alone (no DVD, etc.), 99% of all CBM are profitable.

Gotta be remembered that paying for a script to be written isn't that expensive so it doesn't signify a huge investment from the studio. It hasn't been greenlit yet....
Saying that it is a show of confidence.I'm not a Cap fan.I find his nationalism victorian and outdated in the modern world, but the movie looks fun and I'd welcome a sequel non the less.Good news :)

Jesus, let the first film come out. What is it, "when the teaser trailer for the first film is released, we'll announce the sequel"?
I'll wait untill I've seen the first one before deciding if I need a sequel.

I'm not sure Winter Soldier would be right for the sequel...I think it'd be a smarter move to focus on the "man out of time" angle and establish Cap in the present day with some flashbacks dealing with the impact of Bucky's "death." Then it'd have a bigger payoff in 3 when he finally does show up alive (maybe tease it at the end of 2?)- just one man's opinion...

iron man 3 & captain america 2 have a host villains & storylines they can lead into even building up to the avengers 2.

being a dc movie fan,you don't really know what its like to have a shared & expanding cinematic universe.

hey no worries....not all 6 movies will be equal...some will get better reviews than others....they just need to stick with the deal and provide....have a franchise that keeps the continuity. if SAW and RAMBO and ROCKY and STARWARS and INDY and LOTR can do it then im sure Hollywood can figure out how to make another franchise work without royally screwing them up.
