While Marvel Studios has various scripts in the works, including ones for
Ant-Man, Iron First, Doctor Strange, and
Black Panter, the possibility of the studio hiring screenwriters to pen a sequel for Joe Johnston's yet-to-be-released
Captain America: The First Avenger should come as no surprise. With
Latino Review reporting the claim, they say verbatim:
Stephen McFeely & Christopher Markus, the screenwriters who penned "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER" just got hired to write the sequel for Marvel Studios! Obviously the sequel is going to be present day and take place after THE AVENGERS. I don't have any more details at the moment except that the writers got hired so stay tuned for an official announcement.
During last year's San Diego Comic-Con, if my memory serves me correctly, I believe director Joe Johnston stated offhandedly that sequels for
Captain America: The First Avenger would follow different popular storylines from the 40's era. And with actor Sebastian Stan (Bucky) signed on for multiple films, and the new dark direction, it's most likely the sequel would include Winter Soldier.
What do you think? Anyhow, while the first
footage has been well-received,
Captain America: The First Avenger is scheduled to invade theaters July 22, in 3D!
