Worried about Union Jack?

Should we be concerned at how Union Jack will be portrayed in The First Avenger: Captain America. Including a note on a few other characters that might pop-up.

With the recent information, announcements and rumors regarding the "Invaders" team I'm beginning to doubt whether we will truly see Union Jack in this movie.

Being the only real usable member of the original Invaders (the others being far to powerful or a little bit silly) it was always pretty certain that James Montgomery Falsworth's Union Jack would make an appearance in The first Avenger movie and with JJ Field being announced to play a character named Falsworth all is set to bring Union Jack on screen... or is it?

Along with Falsworth, other members revealed to be part of this revised Invaders were characters named Morita and Dernier (and earlier revealed Dum Dum Dugan). All these other character have closer ties to the Howling Commandos rather than the Invaders. The idea of teaming Captain America with a squad of ground level special ops troops is a sensible one and helps push Steve Rogers as something unique and extraordinary. However, where does this leave Union Jack.

With the other members of this squad being just average soldiers i cant see there being any place for elaborate costumes on the parts of its members, with the exception of Bucky whose costume, if toned down in a realistic fashion, can most likely be used but i cant see them logically having another flag wearing hero just randomly put in. The theme of this movie is that Steve is the first, i cant see them wanting to reference any previous costumed heroes prior to Steve Rogers.

But will this mean Falsworth will end up being just a British soldier wearing a balaclava!!! .. i kinda hope not but i cant see how they can actually put him in.

Possible Cameos

With likelihood that Falsworth will be treated as something a little less than his comic book counterpart where are a few other characters that might get the same treatment.

Brian Falsworth (aka The Destroyer, Union Jack II)
The son of James Falsworth, Brian was in Germany at the outbreak of the war and was held as a POW before breaking out and becoming a gorilla fighter and saboteur behind enemy lines before taking his fathers mantle.

Paulley: Leaving out the elements regarding him being experimented one with super-soldier serum and mentions of the costume costume identities that holds up pretty well

Jacqueline Falsworth (aka Spitfire)
The daughter of James Falsworth.

Paulley: Without her run-in with Baron Blood there isnt much you can do with this character more than a brief mention mention. I would like to see a Union Jack spin-off involving the Nazi occult element introducing vampires and setting up Union Jack more recent vocation as a vampire hunter and a better way to give Spitfire immortality and superspeed (screw Team Edward, i choose Team Jacqueline lol)

Madeline Joyce Frank (aka Miss America)
Every USO show has some hot model for the guys to oogle at, so along with Captain America on stage you can have that years recently crowned Miss America.

Paulley: Yea, its a little sexist but never-the-less true. I just cant imagine they would waste an obvious opportunity to have an easter egg at the USO Show, especially being one character they have a good excuse to put in costume.. another obvious USO show easter egg would be having Captain America punching a guy in a Hitler outfit on stage. (we can only hope)

Betsy Ross (aka Golden Girl)
A member of the U.S. Army's Women's Auxiliary Army Corps that is a love interest of Steve Roger.

Paulley: along time rumored, i cant see her in costume in anyway but im sure they can squeeze a reference to her alias somewhere.

Great write up. I know it hasn't been confirmed if other Invaders opposite Union Jack would be in the movie. But I've come with a few reasons why they choose Union Jack over the others.

1: He could fit into the story that takes place mostly in the UK.

2: Unlike the other Invaders, Union Jack doesn't have any powers. And since this is Cap's movie, they didn't want to throw in other powered heroes with no explanation, or disappoint fans by de-powering them.

absolutally agreed on the reasons he is included..

The other "invaders" confirmed are:
Morita
Dernier
Dum Dum Dugan
Bucky

My concern is that we will never get to see the Union Jack costume or under any name other than Falsworth.

Good write-up Paulley. DCM and Fangz have just about covered what I was thinking. There needs to be a team for Cap to lead, it is "the First Avenger" after all, but too many costumes may detract from either Cap's character development or the level 'realism' that they are going for. I'd like to see Namor and Human Torch, but those don't seem to fit with what their vision of the film is.

I totally understand why you can't get into the Invaders thing. It would be cool but they can't do it. The original Torch, Namor, Toro, and Bucky then people want to see Spitfire and Union Jack. As for the bad guys, Red Skull, Baron Zemo, and Arnim Zola...sheesh! How would they pack all that into a two hour film?

having seen the set , There are a number of easter eggs with regards to the store names - Vernon Photo store . Could be a link to Vernon Henkel Marvel artist of the 1940's . He famously drew The Blonde Phantom . Perphaps we will see this German nazi femme fatale pitted against the Cap.
