Captain Marvel made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office and it's now just a matter of time before Marvel Studios reveals when we'll see the sequel (possibly as soon as Comic-Con next month). Recently, though, the movie arrived on DVD and Blu-ray, and we've now combed through the disc to bring you some huge new reveals about Carol Danvers' big screen debut.

From some previously unnoticed cameos to improvised moments and behind the scenes secrets, there's a lot of great content on the disc and it's well worth picking up.

In the meantime, if you're at all curious about what to expect or simply can't be bothered to listen to Captain Marvel's entire Director's Commentary, then you need to check out this recap.

To do so, simply click on the "View List" button for our breakdown of the biggest reveals...

Nick Fury Uncovers Talos' Secret

Fury112

Apparently, the filmmakers mulled over a number of options for how Nick Fury would realise that his boss was really a Skrull and the alien referring to him as "Nicholas" wasn't actually their original plan. Apparently, Boden's favourite had Fury point out to Keller that his shoe was untied and he then would have noticed that he had no idea how to tie it back up!

That would have been fun, but perhaps a little too obvious. After all, the version we ended up with did a great job of showing just how smart the future S.H.I.E.L.D. Director is!

Marvel's Head Of Security

Did you recognise the security guard outside Blockbuster Video? If so, that probably means you've been hanging around outside Marvel Studios a little too often because he was played by Barry Curtis, the head of Marvel security!

This was the first time he auditioned for a movie role, and he did a great job.

No, The Skrulls Aren't Trying To Kill Captain Marvel

The reveal that the Skrulls are good guys left fans reeling, but some have argued that it came completely out of nowhere after they were seemingly trying to kill Carol earlier in the movie.

According to Fleck, they were actually shooting stun guns during the fracas outside Blockbuster because they didn't want her dead.

Laying The Groundwork For That Pager Scene

Pager1

After crashing to Earth, Carol breaks into Radio Shack in order to assemble the parts she needs to contact Yon-Rogg and the Kree. Look closely during this sequence, though, and you'll notice that a key piece she takes from her suit is later incorporated into the pager she makes for Nick Fury.

That would explain where the hero got the tech to give Fury the capability to contact her in outer space. It's a clever way of ensuring that the inclusion of the pager does make sense.

Do Skrulls Have... You Know?

Talos1

Samuel L. Jackson is one of the best actors on the planet, so it probably won't surprise you to learn that he improvised one of the movie's most memorable scenes.

During the autopsy scene (which was indeed inspired by the Secret Invasion comic book), Nick Fury lifts up the sheet to check out the Skrull's genitals, and that was something Jackson did without prompting. Understandably, the directors chose to keep that in the final cut of the movie.

An Unexpected Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Tie-In

Captain Marvel introduces us to a Quadjet and while most of the craft was brought to life with VFX, the front/cockpit area was actually a piece the movie ended up sharing with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!

That was clearly a way of saving money, and may be an indication that Kevin Feige does keep an eye on what's happening on the small screen. Well, that or Clark Gregg mentioned it in passing.

A Different Soundtrack

A lot of fans found fault with the choice of No Doubt's "Just A Girl" during that fight scene with Captain Marvel in outer space, and the filmmakers revealed that they considered a number of songs.

Many of them were from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, but they chose this classic tune from the 90s because it was "so thematically relevant" according to Fleck. Sadly, they didn't elaborate on some of the other songs they considered.

Captain Marvel Vs. Yon-Rogg

We know from a deleted scene that Yon-Rogg sees himself while visiting the Supreme Intelligence, but that wasn't the only moment with the character that was cut. Apparently, an earlier version of the script ended with Carol actually fighting her mentor before besting him but the filmmakers decided later on that there was really no need for Captain Marvel to be playing by his rules.

Keller's Fate

Keller

The Skrulls are heroes in the MCU, but just how much of a good guy is Talos if he took out Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Keller? Well, a deleted scene reveals that he's just tied up in his office which proves that this group of shape-shifters really aren't bad and didn't take out a single human while on Earth.

Whether we'll see Keller return obviously remains to be seen.

That's Not The Easter Egg You Thought

Talos

That shot of Talos drinking the milkshake was initially interpreted as a reference to 1994's Pulp Fiction, but that's not the case according to the movie's directors; instead, it was a nod to Reservoir Dogs, which isn't quite as on the nose but still equally as cool (and relevant given the film's setting).

About That Stan Lee Tribute

The filmmakers confirm that Stan Lee sadly died during the editing process, something which they "were all really bummed out by." It was Marvel Studios' decision to put together that opening logo to honour the legendary comic book creator and something of a late addition to the movie.

Still, it's fair to say that it was a touching and fitting tribute to Stan "The Man" Lee.

She's Not Captain Marvel...Yet!

Boden points to no one in the movie actually calling Carol Danvers "Captain Marvel" and explains that's because she isn't that character when we meet her here. However, the mention of Mar-Vell at the end was indeed meant to set the stage for Danvers adopting the moniker, as we get a strong indication that she will take her mentor's name and tweak it (perhaps this will be addressed in the sequel).

What do you guys think about these Captain Marvel reveals from the Blu-ray? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.

Continue reading below to see the ways we think Captain Marvel sets up the MCU's future!

Captain Marvel Vs. The Kree

Captain Marvel ends on something of a cliffhanger as Carol Danvers blasts into space shortly after sending Yon-Rogg back to the Supreme Intelligence with a warning that she's coming to put an end to it once and for all.

There are a lot of open plot threads here, including what happens when Carol finally comes face to face with the being that spent years controlling her and robbing the hero of her past (we also never get to see its true form, and that feels like something which now needs to be addressed sooner rather than later).

Plus, it definitely feels like there's more story to tell between Carol and Yon-Rogg, so we're guessing a sequel will take place shortly after the events of this movie to fill in those gaps.

No Secret Invasion?

I think it's fair to say that we went into Captain Marvel expecting the stage to be set for a big screen adaptation of Secret Invasion. However, Talos and the rest of the Skrulls are portrayed in a sympathetic light and the movie does not wrap up with them infiltrating our planet. Does this mean Marvel Studios plans to portray them as the good guys moving forward?

Not necessarily.

Talos makes it clear that there are a lot of Skrulls scattered throughout the universe, and it's entirely feasible that at least one of them would like to make our planet home. If nothing else, at least this movie introduces us to the concept of the shapeshifters!

Ronan Hatches A Plan

Ronan doesn't have a huge part in this movie, but we do learn that he's one of the Accusers and see him fully embracing that role while reporting to Yon-Rogg. At this point, he's a long way off becoming the fanatic we met in Guardians of the Galaxy but he seems to be extremely interested in getting his hands on "the weapon."

That's not the Tesseract he's referring to either; it's Captain Marvel!

He clearly has his own plans for her, and it makes sense that this could be where his fascination with the Infinity Stones begins. A sequel could also explore the beginnings of the Kree's war with Xandar and what, if anything, that has to do with the Skrulls.

Talos' Son

This may mean a lot or very little, but it's interesting that the movie made a point of showing us Talos' young son watching his father kill the Kree. Given the changes which have been made to the Skrull general, his son (who would be an adult by now) could easily end up with a name comic book fans will recognise.

Seeing Talos' darker side could have set the stage for the child to become someone who is every bit as merciless as his father appeared to be, and he may be the one who leads the invasion of Earth.

Monica Rambeau

Carol's relationship with the young Monica Rambeau is a lot of fun and very touching. By the time she returns to Earth, Monica will be an adult and more than ready to become a superhero in her own right.

How that will happen remains to be seen (especially as fans are more anxious to see Kamala Khan/
Ms. Marvel) but the foundations have been laid and it will be exciting to find out what comes next.

Avengers: Endgame

As expected, Captain Marvel's first post-credits scene sets up the events of Avengers: Endgame, and there's a lot of evidence to suggest that Carol Danvers will join the ranks of Earth's Mightiest Heroes fairly early on in the superhero ensemble.

For starters, Captain America still has his beard while the team is inspecting Fury's pager, while the trailers have shown him cleanly shaven. Once the pager goes off, Black Widow turns around to see Carol standing there and she's anxious to know where her old friend is, so clearly doesn't realise what's happened to the universe after the snap.

Once the heroes figure out who she is and Carol learns to trust them, Captain Marvel will quickly join their ranks to help take down the Mad Titan once and for all.

Where's Goose?

In the movie's second post-credits scene, Goose (a Flerken) coughs up the Tesseract in Nick Fury's office and that's obviously how he winds up using it to power the weapons we saw in The Avengers.

The question is, what became of Goose after this? Did he escape and do his own thing or die a few years later
like a normal cat would? For that matter, is he still hanging out with Fury in secret?!

Captain Marvel's Powers

We learn during the course of this movie that Carol Danvers' powers come from a combination of the Tesseract and a transfusion she received from Yon-Rogg. However, it's hard not to wonder if Captain Marvel will be anywhere near as powerful as she thinks against Thanos, especially as he has the power of that particular Infinity Stone on his Gauntlet!

If that stone is destroyed, does that mean Carol loses her powers or will she use it to boost them?

It's hard to say for sure, but her connection to the Stones can't be a coincidence and you have to believe that this will come into play in Avengers: Endgame in a relatively meaningful way.

The biggest reveal for me was how much she smiled in the film.

why do people believe any of her powers came from Yon-Rogg? that is what they told her, but none of them had special powers... so why would she?

@WakandanQueen - after all the nonsense surrounding smiles, I found it interesting how much time is spent on shots of just Carol smiling and laughing. I don't know if I've seen that in any other CBM in recent memory

@L0RDbuckethead - There were some really distinct shots like this in the trailer which got replaced with some more generic version in the movie

@JonC - In AoS they used Kree blood as the main element in the creation of Inhumans. They would have had to have permission from the movie side to do that so it's not all that off the wall.

Yeah that wasn't made clear in the film at all. I didn't hate Captain Marvel but she needs a new director Stat. Someone who can actually do it competently and add a bit more flare and style into her movies.

@Mrcool210 -
It's because it's nonsense trying to explain away an obvious inconsistency with the films plot.

In a similar sense the 'ambush' was apparently intended to capture her, but that's never explained in the movie nor is it explained how they knew she would be there or anything else really.

A lot of the movie makes no sense when you actually put any thought into it.

I liked the film the most immediately after seeing it. Subsequent viewings and hearing people like the directors talk about it has only deteriorated it for me. It's just.. fine.

The biggest revelation was how two directors and half a dozen writers (including the Russos) couldn't make this character any more interesting than the droll Tumblr-made shell currently being written in the comics.

She just came out and we already need a reason to care about her character.
99OPTIMISTPRIME
99OPTIMISTPRIME - 6/25/2019, 9:25 AM
@Battabing - They tried so hard to not make Captain Marvel look like a Green Lantern rip-off. But I think they needed to embrace her origin story more in a linear way. The flashbacks mixed with her memory loss, made her feel a little underdeveloped. With really powerful characters like Superman, Thor, and Captain Marvel, you don't want a convoluted plot, to overshadow their character development, and what their goals are.
Battabing
Battabing - 6/25/2019, 9:39 AM
@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER -

What irks me the most about what Feige and company has done is that they went out of their way to make the derivative Ms. Marvel (Carol) into this seemingly unique character created outside the influence of any man, and in doing so gutted the one hero(Monica Rambeau) who was an original character and independent of "head superhero" influence.

Monica became a superhero on her own, and it was the public that named her "Captain Marvel". She had NOTHING to do with Danvers or the Mar-Vell clan.

Now, Monica is the pseudo-daughter of Carol Danvers, the creators having stripped her supportive father away and placed her mother in some nebulous lesbian relationship with Carol. Monica will also, no doubt, become a legacy character along with Kamala Khan and the others when she should be a completely independent character, separate from all of this.

I just pray to the man Jeebus that none of this trash trickles down to the comics.
99OPTIMISTPRIME
99OPTIMISTPRIME - 6/25/2019, 10:00 AM
@Battabing - I don't mind the change, because "adult Monica" will likely play a big role in the sequel. Plus, aren't her powers linked to Mar- Vell and the Kree? If Carol's gonna be the lead, figuring out how to fit Monica and Kamala Khan into Carol's story, makes sense.
Battabing
Battabing - 6/25/2019, 10:06 AM
@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER - No, Monica has nothing to do with Carol, be it her origin, powers, or affiliations.
99OPTIMISTPRIME
99OPTIMISTPRIME - 6/25/2019, 10:30 AM
@Battabing - Yeah you're right. It's just the Captain Marvel name that links Monica to Carol and Mar-Vell. But I STILL like it!😂 An African American female superhero, that could potentially play a big part in Phase 4, and become form her own identity. Introducing her through the Captain Marvel franchise, could be a good thing.
Battabing
Battabing - 6/25/2019, 10:36 AM
@WAKANDABATMANFOREVER -

Well, just as Carol doesn't need a man to validate her origin, neither does Monica ever need Carol to validate hers.

If Feige really wanted to make headlines, they should have made Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel, instead of another black sidekick to another white captain.
MiZeatWizad
MiZeatWizad - 6/26/2019, 2:04 AM
@Battabing - Monica Rambeau was the Captain Marvel I grew up with and IMO a much better character than Carol Danvers. I'm not a big fan of how they've attached her to Carol's story either.
99OPTIMISTPRIME
99OPTIMISTPRIME - 6/25/2019, 9:13 AM
Most superhero names are actually pretty cheesy, and hard to fit them into live-action adaptations. Carol and Yon-Rogg should've had a sexual and romantic relationship. It would've given more weight to their interactions.

99OPTIMISTPRIME - 6/25/2019, 9:40 AM
@DnA - Agreed. Romance is the easiest way to humanize and soften a character. If you're gonna cast Jude Law in that role, just embrace the lover-turned enemy trope. He's mentally abusive through manipulation and controlling. But by the end she realizes that he's the enemy, she doesn't need him, and kicks his @$$.
