After casting Anthony Mackie as The Falcon in the upcoming
Captain America: The Winter Soldier last month, Marvel Studios is currently searching for a female lead in the much anticipated sequel to last year's
Captain America: The First Avenger.
The New York Daily News reports that Marvel is looking at Anna Kendrick (
The Twilight Saga,
50/50), Imogen Poots (
Fright Night,
Jane Eyre) and Felicity Jones (
Like Crazy,
Chalet Girl) for the role. The identity of the character is currently unknown, but is speculated to be S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter, the niece of Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell in
Captain America: The First Avenger). Kendrick will next be seen in
End Of Watch, which releases September 21st. Jones recently lost the female lead for Paramount's
Jack Ryan reboot to Keira Knightly.
L-R: Anna Kendrick, Felicity Jones, Imogen Poots Chris Evans is set to reprise his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America, while Sebastian Stan will return to play Bucky Barnes (who becomes the assassin "Winter Soldier", as suggested by the title). Joe and Anthony Russo (
Community) are set to direct, while the script was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus. The story picks up
"where Marvel's The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and S.H.I.E.L.D. and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world." Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to hit theaters April 4th, 2014.
