Official Press Release:

DC ENTERTAINMENT TEAMS WITH NATIONAL CINEMEDIA FOR MOVIE THEATER ADVERTISING PROGRAM FOR DC COMICS – THE NEW 52!

DC Entertainment is proud to announce a partnership with National CineMedia (NCM) for a movie theatre advertising campaign to promote DC COMICS – THE NEW 52! Advertising this unprecedented event at the movies alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest films will make it easy and affordable for retailers to reach a mass audience of readers and generate unparalleled buzz and sales.

A 30-second commercial for DC COMICS – THE NEW 52! will be created for retailers by NCM and each spot will be customized to include an end-card that promotes a specific store – including its logo, address and special offer message.

“We urge retailers to take advantage of our 75-percent special event co-op reimbursement to get the word out to both new and lapsed readers in their areas.” stated Bob Wayne, senior vice president of sales, DC Entertainment.

Interested retailers can call 1-800 SCREEN 1 (1-800-727-3361) today to get in touch with their local NCM account director. The five-week flight will run from 8/31/11 – 9/30/11.

What do you think, is this a smart move on DC's part trying to get some publicity in the movie world? Or will this idea blow up in their face. Leave your comments in the comment boxes below.

DC needs to get their act together. Maybe if they weren't run by 12 year olds, they could be competing with Marvel Studios much, much better.

they should turn that dc universe thing into a dvd series, not sure how expansive it was tho.

They should put that Bat logo in front of the DC logo since Batman is bigger than the DC universe.

they should put the advert with movies such harry potter, transformers, pirates of the carribean & captain america.

because they can't rely on people going to see the green lantern to help promote their comics.

Seems like a wasted attempt. I mean people who go to see Superhero movies won't necessarily be interested in reading the comic books. Plus they are putting too much faith in this reboot, considering the fans and pretty everyone is against it and most of these books won't make it past issue 1 let alone issue 2.

Regardless o my feeling toward the relaunch, this is the type of thing I've thought they should do for a while. They use comics to advertise for movies, but never really the other way around.

This is something they should have tried ten years ago. I think this is a really good idea and a way to save this dying median.

@ArtisticErotic: so you suggest that DC shouldn't have faith in their business plans. That seems odd. Besides, it's not like alot of people read comics anyways. Their trying to expand their audience. Did you know that only 500,000 people, in America, read comics. That's including Manga and Star Wars comics. Comics are at the lowest point they ever experienced. Something drastic needs to happen before they become extinct. i don't know about you, but I would love to see comics start thriving like they used to.

DC is trying to advertise their business. I guess with all the superhero movies in theaters , why not advertise at the theaters.

It's a brilliant move.

Place an ad in front of a blockbuster movie, that's easily an audience of millions you've reach. Comic book movies are way larger than the actual comics they come from so if they're trying to bring in a new generation of readers then why not gain them through the movies they watch? It makes total sense. Should have done this years ago.

Damn, a lot of people don't know what they're talking about. They're not starting from scratch, they're just fixing continuity errors, condensing the timeline, and starting at #1s so people have an opportunity to jump into their stories without being confused. Stop with this ignorant hate of the relaunch. And oh yeah, advertising doesn't equal desperate, DC is trying to gain more fans and make money, just like any other company tries to do.

@EBK: Uuuuuummmmmm....last time I checked, the Republican and the Democratic party are opposing parties. Which means the members more than often have opposing views. If one just copied the other then why aren't they just the same party? Your logic makes little to no sense.

Damn, how desperate can you get? It's enough that DC is angering many of their fans with this relaunch, but to use cinematography as an excuse to try and better the problem? That's sad.
