Wally West will be making his full-length debut in the upcoming Flash annual #3, but we get a brief a glimpse of the eventual Scarlet Speedster in Flash #30, out today.

Thanks to Bleeding Cool, we get our first confirmed image of New 52 Wally West.

Then again, who knows? Maybe it'll still be the Wally West we all know and love in terms of personality. But that's just me trying to be optimistic.

I wouldn't be surprised if they race swapped saying that he is being played by a black guy in the TV show. I'm okay with that though - race ain't nothing but a thing.

This is Iris West on the CW show, so what race do you think her nephew is gonna be?

This sucks. I don't get up in arms about movies or shows casting different races for characters because adaptations come and go, but to change the character's race in the comics?! That's really messed up. I was never a big DC guy, but the DCAU really turned me on to a lot of characters. Green Arrow, Black Canary, the Question, Huntress, Hawkgirl, and the Flash became some of my favorite characters (I even picked up a bunch of their solo comics and loved them). I know all the history and the canon, but to me, Wally West (voiced by Michael Rosenbaum) just is the Flash. Barry is the boring guy that came back from the dead and had the dumb looking live-action suit in the 90's...

(Yeah, I know, I'm a latecomer to the party, and my opinion is completely based on my personal limited exposure to the character, but dammit, that's how I feel.)

He doesn't look black to me, he looks like a white guy with a dark complexion. I agree with not changing the characters race and DC has plenty of minority characters they don't use. Milestone Media has a whole universe with potential characters to reintroduce into New 52. I would love to see some of these characters used, I miss the Dakotaverse. I would buy more DC comics if they did.

Would it not have been easier to just call him by another name. It's not like this version of Wally West is Dick Grayson's best friend. Will not have any of the history with the rest of the DC characters. So why couldn't DC and WB have just made a new character that is fast instead. Because if they did that they would not get any hate for this.

Because people would like seeing DC bring in more black, Asian, Native American, Mexican, Arab & Hispanic characters. Instead of changing them into a new ethnicity instead. So I really see no need for this guy to be called Wally West. He would have worked just as well being called something else. If WB really wanted more racial characters in the DC Universe. Why not send Wally West's kids from the future back in the past instead. Wally West marries Linda Park and has twin kids. Sending Iris and Jai back in time from 50 years could work. You would then have two Korean characters.

So I'm not really happy about this news. I would have welcomed this new character. But because he's not really a new character but an old one in disguise I'm not happy with this news.

Personally it makes no different what color or anything Wally is to me, if he had been white in NEW 52 he still wont be Wally from the pre FLASHPOINT Flash!

Barry [frick]ed up the DC Universe, Wally could have [frick]ed up the NEW 52 one - as he wouldn't belong in the NEW 52 Universe and had all his memories still from the old one, the stories would've been gold! Instead they do this just to connect to the BS TV show coming out so pretty lame.
