It's fair to say that while looking at the upcoming DC & Marvel Studios films slate, their are only 2 upcoming films starring female superheroes in Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel. We all know Gal Gadot will play Wonder Woman in the film which will be directed by Patty Jenkins. We have no actress cast for Captain Marvel nor a director attached. One actress attached to a lot of fan casts is Interstellar's Jessica Chastain. She has previous said she's interested in being in a superhero film. Fans have hoped she would be Mera in an Aquaman film or Captain Marvel in the Captain Marvel film. Recently in an interview with RadioTimes, she states the issue with female superheroes movies and female action movies is making the female leads way too over-sexualized.

"If you look at films like Elektra and Aeon Flux, the problem that studios have is that they try to make kickass women very sexualized. They have to be in some catsuit. But if you look at the most incredible female roles, like Ripley in Alien, she is a very sexy woman but she’s not wearing a lot of make-up. She’s in a T-shirt and jeans. What’s sexy about her is how capable she is."

She does have somewhat of a point in how Ripley is regarded as the best female action hero and yet she has little to no make-up and not in a skintight catsuit but what do you all think? Does Jessica have a point? Is the problem over-sexualized female heroes or is there another issue? Comment below, let me know. Peace and remember...

That and the fact nearly all female superheroes are either sidekicks/team members/or tied to male superheroes and not solo stars:

X-Men = Storm, Kitty, Rogue, Jean Grey
Fantastic Four = Sue Storm
Hawkman = Hawkgirl
Captain Marvel = Miss Marvel
Batman = Batwoman, Batgirl, Catwoman
Superman = Supergirl
Spider-Man = Spider-Girl (Anya)
Avengers = Scarlet Witch (shut up, her first appearance was her as an Avenger)
GOTG = Gamoa
Aquaman = Mera
Hulk = She-Hulk
Daredevil = Elektra
Thor = Sif
Inhumans = Medusa, Crystal

Only really Wonder Woman, Black Widow (like Marvel would do a movie for her), Jessica Jones, Spider-Woman, Black Canary, and Zatanna can stand on their own. Sure there are others but not as much.

She does have a good point and hopefully those will be addressed when Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel arrive on the big screen.

Now lets get her involved in a CBM, she's would be a good pick for either Mera or Medusa

She references old failed movies as if they're still relevant.

Probably wanted to be relevant herself so figured, "Hey, why not get all the feminist-extremist riled up with me?"

I have the biggest crush on her

She's right and wrong here. Male heroes are sexualized as well, but maybe not as much as females. Aeon Flux and Elektra were also just terrible films. But, she makes some good points here. Capability oozes sexiness just as much as looks

That is how @Gusto feels.......... he believes that members like @blackandyellow really sexualized him due to his outfits!!!!!

Those skin tight suits male superheroes wear aren't sexualizing then? I could give two shits what your wearing, if your a badass, your a badass. Throwing in some sex appeal isn't hurting anyone, it just helps draw more attention to the audience.

Last time an actress complained about the sexuality of female superheroes, she ended up taking a topless pic in her Superman underwear.

And yeah I agree with her and I would absolutely LOVE if she was Danvers.

Her opinion is semi-valid. I'll give her that.

That being said, I hate this woman. I don't know if it's because I loathe Zero Dark Thirty or what. Something about her face makes me want to take a brick to it.

She makes a good point. I think Marvel is addressing this issue with Jessica Jones.

I would love her to be in the MCU. Maybe Medusa...?

Thing is...the movies she mentioned...aren't good.

And it isn't cause of their wardrobe, Elektra is wearing pants, and a full top in her movie, as where in the comics, she wears assless bottoms, and sash covering her front and back, and ribbons tied on her legs and arms.

Aoen Flux, another horrid movie, failed cause....it's a horrid movie? As skin tight as the outfit is, it covers her up and isn't as form fitting as even Black Widow's is at times in movies.

Alien on the other hand...

But in any case, you give us a good movie, that represents a character well, and audiences will follow that.

She's absolutely right. Not only are such characters oversexualized, but they're so objectified that little effort is made on the rest of the film...in my opinion, anyway. Cracked the Superheroine film code has proved a huuuge hurdle, and this is pretty incredible. I think the Tomb Raider films came closest to it, even though Croft is technically not a superhero...but neither is Aeon, I guess.

That could also be seen as the problem with male superhero movies.

Thinking - It's good for the brain.

I don't know. I've seen lots of movies with women in "badass" roles who also have sexuality.

Laura Croft, The Bride, Aeon Flux (I actually really liked that movie), Sucker Punch Girls, Selene from Underworld, Foxy Brown, Blood Rayne (the games, not the movie), The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo, hell even Hit Girl had some sexuality.

Female sexuality =/= bad. It's been the go-to weapon of choice for women for millennia, just like force has been for men.

This is pretty interesting conversation, Chastain does have point. Some of the worst costumes in movie history include Catwoman in Catwoman, Electra in Electra, and Barbra in Batman and Robin, and it is deeply ironic that the studios thought these costumes would be selling points. If they had given more thought to selling the movie based on character and plot, they might have come up with movies that really sell. Of course, costume is only one issue, and the main problem with those movies was plot. As far as super girl is concerned, I doubt the costume was the main problem with the movie. The costume with pretty close to what Linda Lee Danvers wore in the late 1950s (she was wearing more than wonder woman). The problem was excessive camp, and a character that seemed to reflect 1950s sensibility. Then there was the movies budget which not really super sized. Of course, while fans disliked Catwoman's costume, it was probably not the major reason that movie failed. The movie had a really weak plot.

I believe Chastain is trying to get studios to think about what really draws fans to the movies, and she is adding something to dialog. Just hope studio executives don't think just fixing the hyper sexualization will get them movies that sell. There is a lot more to it.
