UPDATE: SANDMAN & Other DC Vertigo Titles Move From WB To New Line
Apparently Warner Bros. will keep their DC superheroes (Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman etc) but Vertigo properties that are considered "subversive" such as Joseph Gordon Levitt's upcoming Sandman adaptation and the long gestating Dark Universe will fall under the New Line banner...
According to Deadline, all future DC Vertigo adaptations will move to Warner Bros.' sister studio, New Line. So while all of DC's superhero characters (basically anyone that makes up the Justice League) will stay where they are, Sandman, Dark Universe and any potential big-screen outings for the likes of Constantine, Preacher, and Lucifer will be steered under Toby Emmerich and Richard Brener of New Line.
This probably won't end up making much difference, but those hoping that Sandman might be set in the main DCCU - which would be true to Neil Gaiman's comics even though the Morpheus character rarely interacts with the superheroes - could be disappointed. Then again, it's not like these Vertigo movies will be developed by a rival studio, so there's every chance of crossovers down the road.
What do you guys make of this? Happy WB will be concentrating only on the capes, or would you prefer it if Dream and his slightly edgier pals remained under the same banner?
UPDATE: THR reports that Dark Universe will actually remain at WB, and it looks like the project may have lost Guillermo del Toro as director!
