The first project out of Sony Online's Austin studio, this action-based MMO explores the various worlds of DC Comics' superheroes and villains. Key collaborators include comic veterans Jim Lee (who serves as the game's Executive Creative Director), Ale Garza, Carlos D'Anda, and Scott Iwahashi, in addition to EverQuest developers, Chris Cao and Shawn Lord.

A massively-multiplayer experience, DC Universe Online brings high-energy action to the forefront with a combat system designed to deliver a fast-paced action experience with the extraordinary powers of your personally created heroes and villains at your disposal. Battle with or against their favorite DC Super Heroes and Villains including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Joker. For the very first time, players and fans will be able to enter this fabled world as an active force for good or evil.

DC Universe Online is set to be released on Playstation 3 and PC early next year!

Sigh, if only this game wasn't online or with a fee.

I have a lot of characters I have made myself over they years and I think it could be fun to play my character in the DC Universe...but I have a 360, so no soup for me.

I heard it's coming in the end of January from GameStop. I can't wait.

I still have very mixed feelings about this game. On the one hand, the thought of creating my own superhero and being a part of the DC Universe is truly epic. On the other, I'm not sure I want to pay for that each month and will have the time/patience to play it for all of the hours needed to compete with those that are online 20 hours a day, lol! :P

I have it on order. The beta comes out next week. I have never played an MMO before but I love the concept of this game so I'm going for it.

@ Sooner09 - It was never promoted as if you were any of the main guys. Go back and look at all the clips and articles. It's a MMORPG game, the minute you hear that you should automatically know you can't be Supes or Bats. What do you think they'll be 1000 Batmans running around?

@ Astroboy - Read above, what I said to Sooner

@ Destroyer - $15 is peanuts, stop bitching

I felt the same way as Sooner and AstroBoy, but the more I look at this game, the more I think it would be cool to stand side by side with Supes and Batman as my own alter ego.

@Josh: The more gameplay I see of this game the more horrified I become. The game looks amazing... too amazing. This game will ruin marriages, jobs, friendships, and personal lives all over the world. This game probably tastes like super-crack. I'm not going anywhere near this game (that's just me though).

I know that that a lot of people who don't play MMORPGs (myself included) are turned off by the $15 fee and playing other people online. However, I have to play this game. The first month is completely free with the game so that makes it more of a selling point to me. The other thing is that even though there isn't an offline mode, there is still a way to play the game without playing alongside other people. In a lot of the videos on DCUO's website and facebook page, the creative directors for the game have mentioned that while PvP (Player vs. Player) is the main option, that you can play PvE (Player vs. Environment). That means that you can still play the game by yourself and not have to worry about the basic MMORPG guidelines of playing alongside other people. So yeah, you can still play by yourself and you get the first month for free on a game that looks like it will be absolutely amazing. Come on, who on here doesn't want to create themselves as a superhero and fight along Superman, Batman, The Flash, or the Green Lantern while fighting The Joker, Sinestro, Black Adam, Doomsday and many other villains?

I too have mixed emotions - I was first pumped when I heard about it, but now that I've seen the combat, the action seems a bit 'meh'. I was hoping for fluid, dynamic motion (something akin to 'Arkham Assylum'), but the fighting looks like just every other MMO out there. What do you guys think, am I being to demanding?

Screw that, if I'm expected to pay for the game AND a monthly subscription fee, I'm gonna' want the #@$!-ing WORLD!!!

No human on this planet has the IQ, dignity, honesty, or sacrifice to BE Batman. So stop saying not being able to play as Batman in an MMO is a bad thing.

I don't need 13 year olds thinking they are Batman while using leet speak and acronyms in the server.

And also quit complaining about monthly fees. Servers are expensive. They have to make money to pay for them and monthly fees are way better than the mismanaged in game store option.

You should head over to IGN and read the previewers thoughts and first hand impressions. One was an MMO geek with little comic knowledge, and they other had never played an MMO but was a huge comic genre fanboy.

Both walked away calling it an awesome experience.

I should add that Teth-Adam is an 8 man instance. You side with Shazam if you are hero or Adam if villain.

MUST SEE INTERVIEW ABOUT THE GAME!

Developer says the game is stand alone in this interview, it also features some new info regarding where the game is actually at in development, its Pre-Alpha, and in very very early stages of even that.

Looks pretty darn good for long and away from Alpha. They still have thousands of animations to add witch is why it looks a little static he says. He mentions enemies will be much less static as well and that there positioning is just for demo purposes as they're so early in development.

@superman7 that's not what pve means. Pve just means you wont be FIGHTING other players. But you will still be around other players and playing with other players just not competitively only cooperatively against the environment.
