Live-Action STATIC SHOCK Series Discussed By MILESTONE 2.0 Founders

With Milestone Media relaunching, and WB's new digital programming division recently announcing plans for a live-action Static Shock series, now is fine time to be a fan of the Milestone Universe.

WB's new digital division, Blue Ribbon Content,  announced last October that the flagship series from the new department would be a live-action Static Shock series which would anchor a first block of programming.  Since that announcement details on the project have been scarce.  However, in the wake of the surprising announcement that Milestone Media is being revived, the owners have shared a few details about the Static Shock project with CBR.  The  Denys Cowan and Reginald Hudlin stated  that they were initially skeptical of WB's desire to make Static the primary focus of Blue Ribbon Content (probably due to past deals between the two companies) but when WB used Static to announce Blue Ribbon, that essentially assuaged any apprehension. Said Cowan, an original Milestone founder, "....So we took the meeting, and Sam Register was very excited about it, and quite serious, and they made the announcement. Big picture of Static Shock. They used Static Shock to announce Blue Ribbon, basically. That's when we knew they were very serious, because they could have picked anything. They could have picked Flash, they could have picked Superman, but they didn't do that."

Hudlin added, "Every meeting we've had with Sam Register and the folks at Blue Ribbon has been bigger and better. We're so in love with each other -- we're having so much fun on this property. Denys, of course, had already done tons of brainstorming of what we thought it could be."

There are still no details on when the Static Shock digital series will premiere or who will portray Static but according to Cowan and Hudlin, things are progressing well. We'll keep you posted when more news emerges on the live-action Static Shock digital shorts.

Judging by the Flash series, Static Shock's powers are just right to fit an FX budget that can display him to the fullest.

SS was one of those shows that would be on the TV in the background before I realized I was actually watching it. So was Krypto the Superdog, so, there's that.

What's the point of having over 300 TV series and movies if it's not in the same bloody universe? #itsnotallconnected

@TexasTwoFace

I see your point, however, directly interfacing with technology would be a much more useful power to the Justice League in the modern world than electricity.

That said, Static is awesome, and he should be a member of the new teen titans.

"Static should have been the character DC gave the big push to instead of Cyborg. Better character and a much more unique power set and look."

Agreed. Especially if they gave him a slot on the Justice League, where his youth would really stand out.

I've been trying to think of a really awesome "computer interface" moment from a movie or TV show, but I can't. It's usually just opening doors, getting information, and shutting down robots/missiles/doomsday devices. Sure, there may be a lot of utility to it, but this:

...is never going to be as awesome as this:

When will Hollywood learn that computers in movies are boring?

They can use Cyborg to establish Metal Men.
And he does have some unique powers though.

Yes, hope this happens. Static is not lame, the original comics and even the cartoon had good stories dealing with race, discrimination, and real issues that a young African American teen has to deal with. And they have a lot of stories they can tell now. I like static because he was intelligent and used it along with his powers in battle.

If it's conected with arrow/flash I'll be okay with it...otherwise I'm sick of all these TV shows not existing in the same universe
