COMICS: Marvel to Cancel Fantastic Four Comics?

COMICS: Marvel to Cancel Fantastic Four Comics?

Of course Marvel Studio's won't regain the Fantastic Four movie rights by this move, it's more of a symbolic gesture to let Fox know that Marvel won't help promote their films.

According to Bleeding Cool, Marvel is planning to cancel two Fantastic Four comics, both the mainstream 616-Universe and Ultimate Universe, which Marvel sold the movie rights to 20th Century Fox when they went into bankruptcy some years ago. This will, in effect, possibly stop the Fantastic Four reboot, or at the very least, snub Fox. They're even going so far as to remove any artwork featuring the Fantastic Four from Marvel's offices.

The characters, however, will still appear in other Marvel comics, such as "The Avengers". Solicitations for the sixth issue of the "Ultimate FF"  comic seemingly point towards cancellation; could the mainstream books be next?

What do you guys think? Do hope this works in Marvel's favor, thus giving the FF movie rights back to Marvel/Disney? Or are you ooking forward to the reboot? Sound off below.

How does cancelling all these comics help them reclaim the Fantastic Four rights? Sounds a bit pathetic IMO and way too extreme.

What does comic books have to do with movies? Comic books sold have nothing to do with movie box office.

@Mrcool210

Marvel makes money off Spidey merchandise and they couldn't rid him if they tried, same with X-Men.

Like the article said, they can't brush them off but they aren't exactly going to be pushing for them either.

I love that artwork but I HATE who they decided to put up there. Iron Fist? Black Bolt? NO X-MEN OR FANTASTIC FOUR? Come on, Marvel.

i don't be leave it for a second but if it is true then it is foolish because the audience fox is trying to target don't read comics. I am glad fox wont sell the rights because this reboot looks like it will be awesome.

I doubt they will cancell the series due to snub FOX or try to pressure them into giving the rights back. It makes more sense that they will put them on a hold for a while until the movie gears up and then relaunch FF to re-introduce them to fans. Kind of a new jumping on point so readers or new fans wont be lost.

Annoying when people complain about fox having the rights to marvel properties. smh. They bought them fair and square. And anyways with x men from fox and spidey from sony there wouldn't be the kind of superhero movies we get now. Of course batman and superman deserve some credit but x-men and spiderman movies started the modern age of comic book movies. Plus after DOFP, I'm actually not that pesimistic about F4 although I still don't really like the idea much but I'm sure we will all warm to it eventually like affleck being batman or atleast I hope we will.

@MrPrime

I think most have accepted it now. We are all just waiting for the first bit of footage to emerge, which will hopefully occur at Comic-Con.

Marvel cancels issues like this all the time. FF are too popular to remove for prolonged periods, so they will definitely be back before the film's release (if this is even true).
