Fantastic Four: What Fox should do now.

What direction I think Fox should take with the Fantastic 4 property.

Okay let me just preface this by saying that I have defended the new Fantastic 4 movie many times over the past year, I defended the casting of Human Torch, I defended every aspect of this movie, because I wanted to see the Fantastic 4 done RIGHT. Now, after seeing the film that I defended for so long, it hurts to admit, the film is absolutely terrible. I wont get into WHY the movie is terrible. Instead I will get into how Fox could recover from this tragic situation.

I think that Fox should come to a deal with Marvel, similar to what Sony did. Marvel will NOT want to make another Fantastic 4 movie, but, we know they want Dr Doom, Silver Surfer and Galactus. A few years back, Marvel offered to let Fox keep Daredevil, if Marvel got to use Galactus and Silver Surfer. Fox declined, so instead Marvel went and made a highly successful Daredevil TV show. They made a TV show from a character they didn’t even particularly want. If they can do it with Daredevil, theres no reason they couldn’t do it with Fantastic 4.

We have already seen 3 crap Fantastic 4 movies, and I know for a fact we will not be seeing another one. So that’s why I hope to see a Fantastic 4 show, not necessarily a Netflix one either. The Fantastic 4 have a very rich history, and a TV series would better show that then a series of movies ever could. As it stands, Fox have had had 4 major villains in their movies, Doctor Doom x2, Silver Surfer, Galactus and Mole Man. And somehow, they managed to mess up all of them. There is not many directions Fox can go with Fantastic 4 (SPOILERS) now that they have killed off Mole Man AND Doom. It’s not like they will be eager to have Silver Surfer and Galactus in sequel cause we all know how badly that went the last time. All they really have left is the Skrulls, but because the Skrulls kinda need the whole Marvel universe to properly be portrayed, I doubt that will happen. Fox are sitting on a sinking ship. They have shot themselves in the foot and have nowhere to turn. The best thing they can do is either sell the rights to Marvel or have a mutually beneficial deal with Marvel perhaps something along the lines of a Fantastic 4 TV series on FOX (Television Network), produced by Marvel Studios and set in the MCU so the Fan4 can cross over with the Avengers movies. That way, fans get to see a proper Fantastic 4 story pan out. Marvel Studios get Doom/Galactus/Surfer back, and Fox don’t lose shitpiles of money.

(While I’m on the subject, I just want to point out that I would love Fox to come to a deal with Marvel to have their X-men show, on the condition that it has nothing to do with the X-men movies, and instead is set in the MCU. One can dream right?)

So what do yous think? Do yous see something like this happening? Sound off below with your
opinions.

I think Fant4stic 2 will happen.
They should keep the cast, get a new writer and director (Maybe, Matthew Vaughn??)and continue the story of these characters.

F4 2 should see more comic-book stuff like the Fantasticar and the blue suits.

It would be a waste to get rid of the, excuse the pun, Fantastic cast

I agree that this is one of Fox's options, but there are a couple of things to think about here.

1) Now that Fox has released a movie, they can sit on this property for 7-8 years. That should give them pretty good bargaining power with Marvel and allow them to ask for some decent concessions. If we are going to write editorials on this, let's also discuss what they should be asking for, because I think permission to do an X-Men TV show could just be the tip of the iceberg. Are there any other characters Fox should be asking for? Or maybe some release date concessions so Disney will avoid dropping big movies the week after an X-Men movie drops? etc.

2) Again, now that Fox has released a movie, they have 7 to 8 years. They could still reboot the entire Fox/Marvel line up (X-Men & FF) by 2022. Fassbender/McAvoy won't be around forever.

3) Here is what I think Fox should do, as they seem pretty focused on making another one of these movies:

Give the Fantastic Four a small but critical, and likeable, role in the next (post-Age of Apocalypse) X-Men movie. Do not market it as a FF/X-Men crossover movie, only as an X-Men movie. If the movie is well-received (most X-Men movies are), and their role is well-received, it might be enough to wash the bad taste away from this movie and create enough interest to then put them in an FF sequel.
Fox can still keep the universes separate (X-Men just time-travelled, FF frequents other dimensions, not a big leap here), so if this plan doesn't work, then Fox can still reboot or negotiate it back to Marvel (although as some time will have passed by then, there will be less bargaining power over Marvel).

What @nibs said.

Honestly it's kind of dumb to think that they'll go back to Marvel any time soon, especially for a stupid TV show. If you think that's a fair trade you must be an idiot. A huge superhero property and tons of even bigger characters that could make a ton of money, for a TV show that's not even guaranteed to be greenlit. Then if it is greenlit it could suck and not be renewed for a second season.

@kong

Good points!

Another idea, if Fox is negotiating to do an X-Men show, then why not negotiate a Fantastic Four TV show as well? That might be the best way to get people interested in a 3rd reboot. Shit, if they planned out an excellent 3 or 4 season epic that was well received, it might even generate enough interest to do another movie reboot (within 7 years from now) and actually have a new fanbase that WANTS it.

That is probably my favorite idea. Might be a tough sell to Marvel though.

Screw Fox and Trank. Can anyone imagine Fox going to Marvel and asking for a deal like Sony got... really?! Marvel would laugh at them. Marvel has all the pull they need right now. Marvel will buy the rights back and at a much lower cost now that Fox has destroyed the property. Marvel will create a Netflix series with them. What better way to include backstory and character development for a team of heroes than a series. It will be kid friendly and will most likely include the Future Foundation. If Marvel is lucky, Fox will screw up the X-Men property sooner, rather than later, as Fox seems to do with a lot of it's properties.

Fox will wait another 8 years and make another crap Fantastic Four reboot to keep the rights another 8 years before the next reboot will come out. It's an endless cycle of bad movie after bad movie to stop Marvel from making a good movie.

Oh and another thing. Marvel should just go for the jugular now. Move release dates around to coincide with X-Men properties as well as cancel all X-Men related comics and toys. Any business with competitors would do this. Especially when they know the other company is on the ropes with properties that they want.

Fox have screwed up Fantastic 4 3 times. They screwed up Daredevil. They screwed up Elektra. They screwed up X-men repetitively. ANd honestly @lowlighthabit, I think Marvel should try to build up a relationship with Fox instead of shutting them out. Oh and Kong, I did mention the fact that they could come up with a MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL deal. Im going to presume you missed that part. And for a stupid TV show that might not even get greenlight? If its on Fox, their hardly not going to greenlight it themselves if thats part of the deal.

And lets not kid ourselves here and pretend that they didn't [frick] up X-men. They have ruined Rogue, Mystique, Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean, Basically everybody's favorite storylines and characters have been butchered. Fox are unable to tell a comprehensible story without F****** something up along the way.

Reboot again, because nothing has even approached the property's potential. It needs to be a truly epic sci-fi thriller about a crew of compelling and dysfunctional geniuses who are their own worst enemies - the Right Stuff, meets Star Trek, meets the Breakfast Club. Fancast below - I can see objections, but I am more than happy to defend:

Reed - Shia LaBeouf (Say what you want about his offscreen intelligence, but he can radiant a nerdy enthusiasm as well as cocky arrogance that defines Reed. I like the idea of a young Reed, early in his career, just discovering his full potential).
Sue - Rooney Mara (They hired the wrong Mara. Rooney is one of the best young actresses working)
Ben Grimm - Erik LaRay Harvey (Amazing on Boardwalk Empire, really charismatic. I like the idea that Ben is every bit the genius Reed is, living a life that's beneath him because of continuous discrimination, carrying the weight of that frustration even before he becomes a monster)
Johnny - Alex Pettyfer (Really any young, brash good looking dude)
Doom - Mad Mikkelsen ('Nough said)
