Marvel Comics has revealed a series of new teaser images highlighting the lead characters in the upcoming crossover event, Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters. Illustrated by The Amazing Spider-Man artist Giuseppe Camuncoli, they highlight characters like Darth Vader, Princess Leia, Doctor Aphra, Boba Fett, and Jabba the Hutt.

These headshots will also serve as variant covers for upcoming tie-in issues of the event that will see these heroes and villains, along with the galaxy's deadliest bounty hunters, on a collision course for the greatest prize of all: Han Solo. Filling in the gaps between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the series promise to reveal what really happened after Han was frozen in Carbonite.

"Getting to work on a comic at Marvel, especially a Star Wars comic about one of the most perpetually under-appreciated criminal masterminds in the whole galaxy, has been a trip," writer Justina Ireland, who will pen a one-shot focusing on Jabba (artist Luca Pizzari will join her).

"It’s exciting, a little scary, and really makes me wish I could time travel to tell my twelve-year-old self reading comics in the grocery store self  ‘All of this will pay off one day.'"

Jabba the Hutt is one of the most powerful and ruthless gangsters in the galaxy - and Boba Fett, his most trusted bounty hunter, has failed him. How will Jabba deal with betrayal and what does this have to do with a bounty hunter with ties to the High Republic? We'll find out in Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters - Jabba the Hutt #1 this May.

I like the set-up with all those characters involved. Jabba looks kinda weird on that first cover though

I don't understand that last paragraph. How has Boba Fett failed Jabba? Empire Strikes Back ended with Boba Fett leaving Cloud City with Han Solo. If this fills the gaps between ESB and RotJ, then I fail to see how Boba failed Jabba. Unless something happens to Boba while he's on his way to deliver Han. But that kind of seems dumb. We know Boba is the one to deliver Han to Jabba. So I'm not real sure what the point of thos story is.

@CorndogBurglar - would be hilarious if somehow he lost the carbonite in sone cantina around the galaxy, it was stolen and the whole series is about them searching for it.

@Fogs - lol It almost sounds something like that. I mean, he must lose it somehow...

@CorndogBurglar - I was just about to post the exact same thing if they wanted to make a comic or even a series of comic book / comics about what transpired between The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi then they should have chosen a less predictable plot. They could have had this set comics be about Luke dealing with the fact that Darth Vader is his father and have Luke visit places that his father ruined and so Luke then has to deal with the fact that he could end up exactly like Darth Vader but nope Marvel / Disney / Lucasfilm have chosen to go the predictable route and so all suspense that could have been built up is now lost.

Honestly should these kind of plotlines even be in comic form? A CGI Clone Wars style show about the OT could cover so much ground in this time period.

@Nightwing1015 - Kinda crazy that we don’t have one TBH

I'd rather hear the story of what transpired between "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back".

@metroILman - The last few years of the Star Wars comics were about that. They only got to the ESB - ROTJ gap with this new volume.

I hope it’s not revealed that Han spent some time unfrozen from the carbonite or something like that.

It doesn't make sense. To my knowledge Han was frozen in carbonite from empire to return of the jedi. How is there a hunt for him?
