The Ultimates #1 went on sale earlier this week (you can read our recap by clicking here), and thanks to ComicBook.com, we have a first look at the second issue ahead of its release on July 10.

In the sneak peek, the Ultimates are shown fighting their way into the White House, presumably to find out more about The Maker's Council. The heroes eventually make their way inside where we see a photograph of The Maker cosying up to the United States President.

It appears Captain America, who has only just come out of the ice, will also learn more about America's history and how the United States is no more after the world's supervillains carved the world up as they saw fit.

As for the Iron Man-like baddie waiting for Cap in the Oval Office, we're pretty sure that's Midas.

In the regular Marvel Universe, Mordecai Midas - created by writer Archie Goodwin and artist George Tuska in 1969's Iron Man #17 - is a wealthy and powerful businessman with an insatiable greed for wealth and power, inspired by the mythological King Midas who turned everything he touched into gold.

Characterised by his obsession with gold and his ruthless nature, Midas uses his vast resources to enhance his physical abilities, donning an exoskeleton that grants him superhuman strength. He also possesses a "Midas touch" weapon, which allows him to transmute objects and people into gold upon contact.

Midas is primarily an Iron Man villain and has clashed with the Armored Avenger on multiple occasions, driven by his desire to increase his fortune and eliminate those who oppose him.

"The new Ultimates line is the most exciting superhero comics event in years, and it’s humbling to be a part of it," Camp recently said. "We are reinventing these classic characters and archetypes to be as surprising and vital as when they were first introduced."

"Our Ultimates is an evolution not just of the Avengers, but of the whole super hero team concept; from the grand and operatic to the small and personal, The Ultimates will feel like no Avengers or Ultimates comic ever before! That's our ambition, anyway; tune in to find out if we succeed."

Cool, glad to see some of Iron Man’s rogues getting some love instead of The Ultimates just fighting Spider-Man villains and Magneto.
