Marvel Comics has announced that A.X.E.: Judgement Day is going to conclude with a special Omega one-shot that showcases exactly how this monumental saga will impact the Avengers, X-Men, Eternals, and the rest of the Marvel Universe moving forward.
Arriving in comic book stores this November, it will be written by event architect Kieron Gillen and his collaborator on the upcoming A.X.E.: Death to the Mutants limited series, artist Guiu Vilanova.
This month's A.X.E. Judgement Day #1 showed us just how high the stakes were when we paid witness to the destruction of the mutant planet Arakko, the vicious invasion of Krakoa, and Iron Man, Ajak, Makkari, and Mister Sinister joining forces to build a brand-new Celestial. There's a long way to go in this story, but it's clearly going to be big enough to warrant an epilogue!
After events, it's typical to hear that "Nothing will ever be the same again." For the Eternals, however, that's a lie. It’s always the same and always will be. However, in the wake of Judgment Day, it sounds like they'll discover what is truly Eternal.
"Up front, I've black-hatted the Eternals," Gillen tells Entertainment Weekly. "Not all Eternals are bad guys here, but mainstream Eternal society are the aggressors, and for very ‘understandable reasons.’ That's the first act, basically: The Eternals go to war, and then we build up from there."
"But the Eternals are a complicated group of people. Especially since I'm writing both the Eternals tie-ins and Immortal X-Men, I'm always writing the complexities."
That first issue didn't hold back, and it was quickly made clear that A.X.E.: Judgement Day is going to deliver seismic changes to the Marvel Universe as we know it and, in this instance, it really does feel like nothing will ever be the same again.
