Marvel vs. DC was an event which allowed comic book fans to vote on the outcomes of fights between heroes from both worlds. Superman originally defeated Hulk, but this artwork reveals a different outcome.

With the comic book industry essentially on hold, a lot of fans believe that the best way to kickstart sales when the world returns to normal would be a Marvel/DC crossover event of some sort.

The last one came our way in 2004 (yes, sixteen long years ago) in the pages of Kurt Busiek and George Perez's epic JLA/Avengers series which brought the two teams together. However, back in 1996, a crossover was published titled Marvel vs. DC pitting the most iconic characters from both worlds against each other.

The interesting thing is that readers were given the opportunity to vote on the outcomes of five of the event's biggest battles, including Superman's confrontation with The Hulk! Debates have raged for decades about which of them is strongest, but on this particular occasion, the Man of Steel won.

Now, Marvel Comics Executive Editor Tom Brevoort has taken to Twitter to share an unused piece of artwork by Claudio Castellini showing a version of this fight which ended with the Jade Giant standing triumphant over Superman. He also shared the original page depicting the alien's win over the Gamma powered hero.

Another Marvel/DC crossover would be no bad thing, especially as comic book sales may struggle to rebound once COVID-19 is defeated seeing as they're unavailable physically and digitally.

Superman or The Hulk? Who would you put your money on?

@Doomsday8888 - I'm just saying of course Superman should have won the fight, but not with a punch. He should have launched Hulk into space or even laser-eyed or something.

Raw strength is the Hulk's gimmick. When you beat him with his own gimmick it diminishes the character. It would be like if Cap beat Batman by sneaking up on him.

@Spock0Clock - A lot of the fights were total BS.

Spider-Man beat Superboy.

Storm beat Wonder Woman. As if Wonder Woman couldn't have jus5 flown really fast and punched Storm one time for the win.

Wolverine beat Lobo. Lobo....a guy that can regenerate as long as one living cell still remains.

Marvel Vs DC wasn't exactly the most accurate of "versus" stories. But I guess that's what you get when you have fans dictate the outcome.

Implying that's a bad thing

I'd pay good money to see that though. :P

Do you think this "A" stands for "F*ck Batman"??? Well, you're goddamn right!

Written by Miller, of course.

@CorndogBurglar - I actually dig Spider-Man beating Superboy. Mostly because it's one of the few highlights of Ben Reilly's run as Spidey.

@Spock0Clock - Namor vs Aquaman was the worst fight in that run.

@Reeds2Much - Worst ending, definitely. It's been years since I read it, but I remember Green Lantern vs. Silver Surfer to be really anti-climactic, too...

...Wait a minute, were there any genuinely satisfying fights in that book?

@Spock0Clock - that series was nerd candy and I absolutely loved it. JLA and Avengers was the better of the crossovers though.

@CorndogBurglar - you sound like every DC guy would win all the fights
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/8/2020, 7:59 AM
@blitzburgh - Why? Because I named 3 fights where DC characters should have won, hands down?

How's this?

Cap should have beaten Batman, in my opinion.

Silver Surfer beat Green Lantern, rightfully so.

Thor beat Captain Marvel

Electra beat Catwoman.

I agree with all those.

@Spock0Clock - I always liked Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider. And I was probably the only person on earth that didn't hate the clone saga.

But I just don't see any way that Spider-Man, Ben or Peter, would stand a chance against Superboy. And didn't he beat him by using electrified webbing or something like that?

I don't know. Superboy is way too powerful for Spidey lol.

@CorndogBurglar - Hulk beats Superman, and Spiderman has kryptonite so superboy is done
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/11/2020, 3:38 PM
@blitzburgh - Spider-Man didn't Krhotonite though. If my memory is correct he beat Superboy with electrified webbing....which is silly. That shouldn't be anywhere near enough to take down Superboy.
