A Tennessee school board's decision to ban MAUS, a Pulitzer-winning book about the Holocaust, has resulted in outrage.

Art Spiegelman's acclaimed graphic novel is based on his parents' experiences during the Holocaust, depicting Jews as mice and Germans as cats. The McMinn County School board in Tennessee voted 10-0 to remove MAUS from its curriculum in all of its schools, citing the book's inclusion of words like "God damn" and "naked pictures" as its reasons.

Apparently, they found these elements in a story about one of the worst atrocities ever inflicted on mankind to be "objectionable."

Several individual board members elaborated on their reasons for voting to ban the book, and you can find some, frankly, astonishing quotes here.

Spiegelman himself weighed in on the controversial decision during an interview with CNBC. "I'm kind of baffled by this," he said. "It's leaving me with my jaw open, like, 'What?'" he added, describing the board as "Orwellian."

You can check out just a few of the Twitter reactions below.
