The one thing that always caught me in superheroes as I was growing up, were their very own dark crime fighters. You all know what I mean by dark: with a horrible temperament, the “my way or highway”; how their morality and ideology is always present; the manner they always seem to try to hide their fears, emotions and feelings; the mode their presence is always felt and weighted even when theirselves are not; how they always like dark alleys and high places when most of them (dark heroes) cannot fly and the colors they wear. An one thing is clear, they seem to stun us more than the Super Man alike. Sometimes their past and origins are more approachable and other times it´s their kind of power, or no power at all. But one thing it´s clear is that I and a good part of superheroes fanatics like them the best. Batman was always my favorite and my craziness, then Daredevil whom I felt empathy never alike and only then a superhero that it´s not part of the “dark “ones, Captain America.
I keep trying to tell myself why I grew up with that Batman thing in my head in every move I made when few or maybe none were the thing I had or saw about Batman. Few cartoons; no toys. But he and Robin were always my aim; my target at both inspiration and aspiration. The only thing that I know it´s that it must have been the suit; the colors; the symbol and the way they wore them: pretty tight and proudly, that, we could see in their faces and talking about faces, it always interested me how we could see them beneath all the darkness, Batman with half and Robin with practicly all, those were little windows to theirs souls the only thing that opened them more. When I really saw Batman in action was on Justice League Unlimited and boy that was sweet, he looked more cool and powerful with none powers at all. He put reason into other´s heads and he insisted to make things his way, the way he proved always it was the right one.
Let the fight begin:
Batman
I already said all I wanted to say about him. He´s the toughest there is!(But that doesn´t mean he´s the best dark hero)
Daredevil
The Man without Fear; damn right he is. Marvel´s resident blind well-doer is one of the early characters who came to life with flaws, an early concept of Stan Lee to make characters more identifiable with the readers and make them more realistic. It worked all right, and that came even more extreme when Frank Miller got to lead it to new directions and darkness (Frank Miller, the guy I haven’t still believed that said those awful things about Occupy Wall Street). Still talking about the haunted soul of Matt Murdock, whose past he will never forget, he is a serious candidate for best dark hero because his suit, I got to say this, it´s awesome and a good representative for a vintage dark hero costume. His villains are somehow personal to him. From Bullseye who represents what someone can do if it used his abilities for the evil to Elektra, the ninja who Matthew feels terribly in love with. The way his eyes aren´t visible when wearing the costume representing his visionless eyes is just amazing and spectacular. And if we think about it pretty rough, the whole concept of the character is that justice is blind and a consequence of one of its past blindness’s can see that… even if he is blind of his own.
I have alittle pool here with some more I consider "dark heroes".Tomorrow I´ll post reviews of the others.
And don´t worry about the Blade and alikes, they´re on other section8but that´s another story)
