EXCLUSIVE: Interview With One of The Designers of The Infinity Gauntlet from Marvel's THOR

While waiting for the official unveiling of Marvel Studio's The Infinity Gauntlet movie prop I managed to catch up with one of the swords creators, who had a hand in the creation of this amazing piece. Here are the details:

- The prop was created by Sword and Stone out of Burbank, California. Tony Swatton was the head designer on the project, most of the credit undoubtedly goes to him for the final product.

- The prop is made almost completely out of bronze and copper. The gems are molded out of colored resin.

- The piece's approximate weight is roughly 60 lbs.

- All of the joints are operational, in case the studio plans on using animatronics to "wield" it for a future film.

- The prop will first be shown in Marvel's THOR which is scheduled for release next summer.

- The company who created it also created the Infinity Sword. It stands six feet tall, is encrusted with similar jewels and is perfectly balanced.

Like I've said from the beginning. Hulk won't be the bad guy in avengers. Something bigger will happen. And this shows it.

Good Lawd!!! THE INFINITY GAUNTLET!?! ARE THEY SERIOUS!?!? Above the rainbows, the clouds have parted and i see heaven!!!

Marvel just keeps upping the ante. DC has alooooot of catchin up to do. Which is a good thing. Great competition results in great product.

For those who does not know about this INFINTY GAUNTLET
here is a PLOT SUMMERY of the SIX issue limited series.

"Thanos mounts the six Infinity Gems, (collected in the The Thanos Quest limited series), on his left glove to form the Infinity Gauntlet, the focus of the title of the series. Each Gem grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the universe: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, and Power. Now all-powerful and desperate to win the affections of Death,

Thanos decides to offer the entity a gift of love by erasing half the sentient life in the universe.

By peterparker23 at 2010-07-25

The surviving heroes on Earth band together — guided by a newly-resurrected hero Adam Warlock — to battle Thanos. In a bid to impress Death, Thanos allows the heroes a slight chance of winning, but defeats and kills almost all of them. Thanos then goes on to imprison the cosmic pantheon — consisting of Galactus; the Stranger; the Titan Kronos; Epoch; the entities Love and Hate; two Celestials; Master Order and Lord Chaos; and Eternity — before losing the Gauntlet in a moment of carelessness to space pirate Nebula.

Nebula inadvertently undoes all of Thanos' actions, and after another battle with the heroes and cosmic deities loses the Gauntlet to Adam Warlock. Thanos then appears to commit suicide by detonating a nuclear bomb rather than be taken prisoner, but actually retreats to contemplate his loss"

I feel they CAN do THIS story if they did it in the style of the OPENING SCENE to,

LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring..It could be like a opening MOTAGE of the WHOLE story..Also is would be
AWESOME just to see a glimps of ADAM WARLOCK!

That's one expensive and detailed prop to be just lying around the set during a scene. It's going to have some resonance.
MikeHawk
MikeHawk - 7/25/2010, 9:15 PM
It's very expensive, very detailed, all to be sculpted with the wrong hand LOL its suppose to be left hand! marvel just G'd themselves

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sucks! The Infinity Gaunlet saga was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYY bigger than just one Thor movie!!! The Infinity Gaunlet should be it's own movie!! {sigh} Another disappointment.
blacksword7
blacksword7 - 7/25/2010, 9:23 PM
The colors oof the gems are wrong. Never read any of the Gauntlet-based stories but i do know they are supposed to be blue, yellow, orange, green, purple, and red. this gauntlet is right-handed and there are two bluish stones, one red/maroon one indistinguishably dark one (which could be purple) one greenish-yellow and one opalescent.

does thanos need an actor to "put on" something?
i would've thought a majestic voice would suffice,

wolverinesfury@ peterparker gives details up the page a ways.

mjamini@ Relax...we don't even know how much of a role the gauntlet will play in Thor. It says that it will be first introduced, which would lead one to believe it will play a role in multiple movies. I can't believe how some people read too much into things without enough information.
RedDevil
RedDevil - 7/25/2010, 10:28 PM
I really don't care what hand it is going to be used, I just want Thanos in an Avengers sequel with some cosmic characters being introduced like Nova,Quasar, and Captain Marvel
