Didn't see that coming! Our favorite potty mouthed cop is joining the Batman universe in an animated version of the popular Gotham by Gaslight one-shot comic. Revealed by Jennifer Carpenter herself during her Q&A panel at Wizard World St. Louis, the talented actress will be providing the voice of 'Catwoman' in the animated adaptation.

Gotham by Gaslight is an "Elseworld" story by Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola where in the Victorian Era, a string of murders has the city on edge. The targets are all women and the suspect is none other than the "Bat-Man". However, the real killer is alot closer than the dark hero thinks and he must act fast to clear his name before it's too late.

Fans of the story know that Catwoman wasn't in the "Gotham by Gaslight" story, so it's interesting to see how she will fit into a universe where the women are being murdered. Popular website IGN said the comic is" as taut and well-conceived a graphic novel as you can find-Elseworlds or otherwise."

So how about it, are you guys excited to know about this project? How do you feel about Jennifer portraying the popular anti-hero? Leave your thoughts below!

Hopefully the Gotham By Gaslight movie will be great. The comic was awesome and sadly recently DC's animated films haven't been anywhere as good as they were in the past. One of the reasons they keep changing how the stories played out in the comics.

Look at the Killing Joke adding a scene no one wanted other than Bruce Timm. Even Judas Contract has taken out Cyborg and Donna Troy, but replaced them with Blue Beetle and Damien Wayne's version of Robin. So I'm very Leary of adding characters or scenes that weren't in the comics.

@BlackIceJoe - Tell me about it. It's like they sit around a board room, and someone says, "Hey... that 'Gotham by Gaslight' was a pretty great graphic novel and it was really successful. Let's make a movie out of it!" Everyone agrees, and then marketing tells the suits it needs more women in it, and the execs are like, "This needs Catwoman." The creative team say, "Catwoman wasn't in this." And the suits are like, "Change it then." And the creative team are like, "So you want us to take something that was successful and change it?" And the suits are like, "Yup. Add in some shit that wasn't there and take out stuff that was there. It'll make it better!" And the creative team are like, "Do you remember New Coke?" And the execs are like, "What does New Coke have to do with this?" And then the creative team commits mass suicide because they realize they work for assholes who don't get storytelling.

Well this may be a good or bad sign, I'll have to check the footage but I don't believe this will made by DC/Warner Bros.
