David Slade Offers Brief Update On DAREDEVIL Script; Promises News In January

Taking to Twitter, director David Slade has offered up an update on the status of the Brad Caleb Kane penned script as well as promising news in the New Year. Read on for details.

News has been fairly quiet on the Daredevil front lately, but a Tweet from director David Slade seems to indicate that a first draft of the script (from Fringe writer Brad Caleb Kane) has been completed. While there's still clearly some work to be done, the promise of some sort of update in the New Year is very promising, and with any luck, it will be news on the start of production or even a release date. Here's what Slade told his followers just a few moments ago.

The Daredevil comic book series has recently been relaunched by Mark Waid, stepping out of the shadow of the Frank Miller years and returning the character to his swashbuckling roots. Whether the big screen reboot will follow this direction or maintain the "dark" tone established by writers such as Millar, Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker is unclear.

hope they use a more comic book look to the costume this time round,it can't be that hard to do.

@ ecksmanfan

yup it was bad,the directors cut was an improvement but still an average film.

Note to self: 1/Make the movie entirely about Daredevil/Matt Murdock, not several other characters who ruin the main focus of the narrative, steal screen time and show up just to whore a toyline. 2/Do enough research to make Murdoch's character a believable lawyer and add depth and reason for him to become Daredevil to get justice for those he cannot avenge through normal legal process. 3/Cast a gifted actor and allow them to study the everyday problems of blindness and bring it to their work. 4/The relationship Matt has to his father; Battling Jack - and the way Jack becomes a target for the mob is a worn out movie cliche - work around it or rewrite it completely. 5/Go with a more comic-faithful version of DD's costume. 6/ Make the audience actually CARE about the character. 7/Go with one major nemesis - Kingpin for example. 8/Lay the groundwork for other foes - but leave them for potential sequels. 9/ DD works best with an intelligent adult audience - aim the script for them - and don't sell out.

@BillyBatson1000- If I had the power to implant your thread into the minds of those in charge of this project I most certainly would! Good job.

This movie is going to end up being a complete and total trainwreck. The current deal apparently requires the film to be released by the end of 2012 as required with their seven year rights clause. That means they are undoubtedley rushing the script, going to rush the actors casting processs, going to rush into production, and Fox is going to have to anti up tens of millions of dollars for a film that will probably get smashed by critics because its rushed. Fox has to be sweating buckets

It should be time for Marvel to step up to the plate. Offer Fox the studio rights (Such as Universial for Incredible Hulk) with a the rights for a trilogy (or three film incarnations of Daredevil), the toy rights of X-Men back, restarting the clock on the Fantastic Four Rights immedietley, production rights to the Runaways, and fifteen million dollars.

Fox is rushing this and will lose money on Daredevil, move the rights and make some money. Disney wants Daredevil back needing to add realistic members into the Avengers and the Cinematic Universe which they are building ( The Universe is becoming a money making machine). Time for some co-operation!!

Since Michael C. Hall has sadly grown pretty much too old for Murdock (not that I'll complain if he gets the role), I actually kind of liking the idea of Matt Bomer for the role by now...still, I'm not sure on that, though. But as for now, I'd love it more if they can find a new guy - a rather unknown fresh face in this case - who has the capability to surprise us all. Give me that and I'd be really glad.

ecks You're right. :)

capnmalcolm More like The Question to me (he's perfect for the role), but since DC is not going to develop much in a short time...yeah, he could totally be a Daredevil. He's always such a badass.

Anyway, Joel Edgerton is not a bad suggestion either. Guy Pearce would be great...but he's now even older than Michael C. Hall.

@Rhinoman They don't have to release it by the end of 2012, just start production on it by then, to keep the film rights.

I'm sure I'd argue with the rest of your post, but I can't really understand it. Does Babelfish have a "Bad Grammar" translator?
Rhinoman
Rhinoman - 12/3/2011, 5:35 PM
@curmudgeon

Grammar is fine except maybe using a run-on sentence in the first paragraph. The reports I have read indicate the movie has to be released by the end of 2012, have not seen a report stating that production needs to start only the production in 2012 to retain the rights.

Personally I thought Ben did a great job as Daredevil... the costume was perfect, and the action was perfect... hopefully this'll just be a sequel instead of a reboot... but doubt it.

Let's speculate.

This time I might be interested in the movie. Anybody is better than Ben Affleck. I just cannot understand how he got that part. The fighting scene with Jennifer Garner in the backyard was way beyond crap. He just didn't fit Daredevil in every imaginable way IMO...

What superotherside said concerning the rights is interesting. Does anybody know if Fox still owns "the man without fear"? If so, we're probably heading for another disaster...

I would like to see Daredevil have some top notch martial arts fight choreography. That is what a lot of CBMs are lacking. even Nolan's ninja Batman didn't have cool hand-to-hand fight scenes. This is an area Daredevil could excel in. It has to stand apart from the Dark Knight due to similarities in the characters (at least to mainstream audience.
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 12/3/2011, 6:50 PM
capnmalcolm Nah, if it's something outside of CBMs, then I'll shut the hell up. Seriously, I've never heard of that.
