Fox hits all-time bullseye with Bond's 20th film
Fox International's Die Another Day has become the highest international grossing James Bond picture of all time with a $246.9m international cumulative score, overtaking the $242m set by GoldenEye.
The 20th Bond title passed the record mark with a mighty opening in Japan over the weekend, taking $3.4m from 325 screens and setting a new opening record for a Bond title in that market.
Last week Die Another Day scored the biggest opening of all time for a Bond picture in Italy with $2.02m from 249 sites. The running total in Italy so far is $4.1m. To date the picture has scored record grosses for the franchise in 39 markets including the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Australia and Mexico.
In the UK alone, Die Another Day's cumulative gross is an astonishing $56.7m. Other territories with impressive running totals include: Germany ($32.9m); France ($22.6m); Spain ($9.8m); Australia ($10.5m); India ($4.4m); Thailand ($2.5m); and Mexico ($6.6m).
Meanwhile Daredevil somersaulted straight to number one in Spain over the weekend, achieving $2.2m from 348 screens. To date the superhero action-thriller has grossed $16.2m in 10 markets internationally. Daredevil is due to open in Yugoslavia, Russia and the Dominican Republic on Mar 13, and Brazil, Estonia, Mexico, Sweden and Thailand on Mar 14.
