The Reboot without Fear

The Reboot without Fear

As fans wait patiantly and impatiantly, the question still remains Will DareDevil be one of the movies that are brought back to life like the Hulk? Or they that have thrown the S like punisher warzone?

Editorial Opinion

This is merely MY two cents

What should the concept be?
Likened to Hulk, we've seen and know of his transformation which could be shown again through Flash backs at points in the movie. Get to a good story of DareDevil that makes you feel your IN the comic. Dare Devil is griddy, dark, and needs a serious tone.

The setting: RYKERS island, which is where the movie starts. A man there is unjustly acussed of smuggling drugs. This man, is a key whitness to a case to justify Kingpin's presence in Rykers, Only there for the soul reason of hopefuly ending him there in prison before he can testify. On the day Matt and Foggy see him to tell him that they have evidence to set him free, a prison break insues. Matt becomes the Dare Devil, and makes his way into the prison to get to the whitness. Consiquently, one of the escaped prioners, is the homicidal BULLSEYE who goes out of his way to find and end this whitness.

Before he gets a pencil in his back, the whitness tells DareDevil to tell his Lawyer, to look up a private detective he hired: Dekota North, she was following leads to find more evidence in case he got done in.

Matt and Nelson's new perogotive is to see that Dekota is kept safe while she looks for clues, meanwhile Bullseye is back on the streets and is out to get the next loose end. Daredevil/gets close to Dekota while working with her, but is weary because of his recent relationship Karen Page, who as it turns out was killed by Bullseye. Dekota is concerned about DareDevil because he's become more....rogue in his methods since Pages' death, and is worried that he'll become who he hunts.

The director should be big hitter like Tony Scott, or Spike Lee.

Here, is the cast I think can really make this work

Matt Murdock- Micheal C. Hall
Bullseye- Vincent Cassell
Dekota North- Kate
Foggy Nelson- Sean Astin
Ben Uric- Hugh Laurie
Wilson Fisk- James Gandolfini

i think the first was decent

My apologies, the actress' name is Kate Mara

Oh and the 1st one was decent enough in its Extended edition, but was still lacking

I agree that the first movie was decent (not counting the muddled Director's Cut), but it definitely didn't feel mature and dark enough. If there is another Daredevil movie I hope that it doesn't retread anything from the first movie and it makes more of an effort to get into the psychology of the characters. Tony Scott's visual style could be suitable...can't picture Spike Lee doing a comic book movie.

Now that video's what I'm talking about, show Matt as a kid really giving some bullies hell.

And yeah, Tony Scott is probobly best

I think Oded Fehr (The Mummy, Deuce Bigalow, Resident Evil 2&3) should be Bullseye.

and just as a disclaimer, i'm not being racist by casting a middle eastern as a homocidal maniac. I honestly think Oded would be awesome for the job.

also, EXCELLENT choice for Kingpin (although i do have to applaud Michael Clark Duncan for his portrayal)

I love the idea of a Hulk-style Daredevil reboot. Recast it, but I don't think they should stay focused on Kingpin and Bullseye. Maybe Kingpin and someone new, but don't rehash with Bullseye again too. Thats the drawback of starting over again. Don't wanna rehash villains, thats how u keep it fresh and interesting, with new threats that strike on varying levels. Good topic.

"Whitness" we must protect the whiteness (I know it's suppose to be witness, but that it was in the article 3 or 4 times threw me off)?

I think the only really good things about the Daredevil movie was Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin and Colin Ferrell's portrayal of Bullseye. I think Ferrell did an excellent job, although I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced. Daredevil doesn't really have too many big costumed villains, so I would like to see Bullseye return (most of Daredevil's villains are gangsters like: Kingpin, the Owl, Hammerhead, etc.).

I wouldn't want to just jump over the Karen Page story, she's a HUGE part of Daredevil, although I wouldn't mind a possible rehash of Electra to set her up as a villain (Leader of the Hand) later.

I'd like to see Dakota North eventually, but I think it would be too early to really establish her unless you did a group bad guy, like the Hand.

WeaponX - 1/3/2009, 5:04 AM
Yes, Elektra and The Hand. Do the story based on Elektra being hired to kill Foggy and falls for Daredevil and she ends up siding with DD against The Hand.

Not only was DD horribly miscast, so was Elektra. I'd like to see some justice done to both characters if there was a reboot.
FrankGarret

I'm in favor of it. So long as Frank Miller doesn't direct it with Jason Statham ad Murdock.

I really liked the DD movie, I know it had its problems, but overall, it wasn't bad. The one problem that I had with it was Ferrell as Bullseye. He was TERRIBLE!! Bullseye is supposed to be a hardcore, 100% psycho, and he made him look like a little wimp who cries when he misses his target.

a spike lee daredevil movie! that may just be genius!

i too liked the original one, i think its unfairly seen as a failure for some reason...but a reboot wouldnt piss me off too much

Spike Lee? that actually might be just "left-field" enough to work! Maybe have Frank Miller on in a consultant's role (after "the spirit", that may be the closest he gets to a director's chair for a while!)

Just as long as Ben Affleck doesn't touch the movie with a 50 foot pole... it should come out all right.

They should forget about Elektra altogether and introduce Typhoid Mary.

Also I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Hammerhead, Eric Slaughter, the Slug, or the Purple Man instead of a focus on the Kingpin. And they could bring in some mob toughs like Tombstone.

No need to rehash the same characters.

Spike Lee directing Daredevil...Hmmmm. Nah, put KEVIN SMITH in the chair. He wrote Daredevil for a while (which, was SWEET), let him get in there and do some goodness.

GET SOMEONE WHO CAN REALLY FIGHT,CAT LIKE REFLEXES AND OVER ALL ENTERTAINING TO WATCH, GET A GOOD ACTOR,WHO LOOKS OR CAN LOOK THE PART,BE TRUE TO THE COMIC BOOK, GET WRITERS INVOLVED WITH CREATOR OF THE BEST STORIES OF DD EVER CREATED, MAKE THE COSTUME LOOK COOL AND JUST LIKE THE COMIC BOOK,LOOK AT ALL THE COSTUMES MADE IN SUPERHERO MOVIES PAST AND IMPLEMENT WHAT WORKS INTO A BAD ASS COSTUME.GET A DIRECTOR THAT KNOWS ACTION AND THAT WILL HONOR THE BOOK AND ITS DIEHARD FANS,TAKE SOME LIBERTIES, BUT DONT DO ANYTHING WITH DD THAT WILL PISS FANS OFF. TALK TO FANS, FIND OUT WHAT WE WANNA REALLY SEE IN A DAREDEVIL MOVIE...THATS ALL I GOTTA SAY, OH YEAH, DO IT RIGHT.

Kevin Smith is definitely a better choice to direct the movie. I think Statham would be a good Daredevil, but I don't know if he could pull off the Murdock persona.

Believe it or not, i wouldn't be opposed to maybe even seeing Ewan Macgregor in the role... what do ya think?
GUNSMITH

I agree,fartman...just do some flashbacks to flush out a bit of the origin story and press from there.Typhoid mary is definitely a great villian, but I don't know if i would stand her alone. Have Kingpin hire her from prison, let Bullseye get jealous and decide that Daredevil is HIS kill, have him escape from prison for that purpose and run it from there.

SupermanReturns2 - 1/3/2009, 12:39 PM
How about Matthew Fox as DD? He looked enough like him in SPEED RACER to put one in mind of the man without fear. He could do a much better job than Affleck, and be more convincing.

[frick]ING BRILLIANT!

Michael C Hall isn't a bad pick at all... definitely looks the part.

I'm not sure why they didn't approach kevin Smith for the first movie, but they might want to get him in on any reboots. If he doesn't want to do a superhero movie, give him the consultant's chair ro find the best director. As long as we don't see the matinee read:

Everyone: Yeah, Sry for the bad spelling.

Frank Garret: Yes NO STATHEM!!

BuckyB7588: FERRELS WAS BRILLIANT, YOU ARE WRONG. :D

NAPosey:
How about Milla Donavan being the witness and Matt getting close to? Since there IS more of a conection between the two.
Warpath15:
I like what your thinking, Bullseye could be in a SEQUAL to the reboot, and in THIS movie, Kingpin could hire someone ELSE to kill him like ECHO played by Michelle Rodriguez

http://media.photobucket.com/image/michelle%20%20rodriguez/faithashley81/michelle-rodriguez-in-court.jpg?o=43

Or

White Tiger hired by the Yakuza, played by Ziyi Zhang

http://media.photobucket.com/image/ziyi%20zhang/spike_grg/Ziyi_Zhang.jpg?o=4

However I think it best to leave Purple man and Tombstone for Luke Cage to handle in his own movie.
TheMyth

This article made me bust out this movie and watch it. Ben Affleck should never be cast as a superhero, period. He looks like he is still practicing his fight choreography the whole time and a total lack of agility or acrobatic skill at all. Jennifer Garner only bombed the role because of bad direction. Collin Ferrel could have been good, but it was like watching Kostner in 'Wyatt Earp', he overacted it at times. Micheal Clark Duncan was spectacular as the Kingpin, the scene in which he kills his 2 bodyguards for talking to the press, so brilliant. I blame this movie's lack of success mostly on the Director, Mark Steven Johnson.

The idea to cast Hugh Laurie as Ben Urich is an Epic call, good job! Sean Astin is a good one too.
NAPosey
NAPosey - 1/3/2009, 7:27 PM
I'd love to see Milla Donavan in a movie, but I do disagree that there is more of a connection between the two. Yes Matt did actually marry Milla, but it always comes back to Karen Page with Murdock, although I think Milla would be more movie friendly (easier character to set up and don't need too much time to make a connection. I think Karen would have to be in 2 movies before she got killed to do the story justice).

Other than that small disagreement on who is more important to the DD comic book story, I completely agree with you TSE.

PS - Echo would be awesome and Michelle looks the part, but can she play anything besides a cop? I don't think I've ever seen her in anything where she's not an officer.

ben affleck wasnt that bad..and i hate affleck! i certainly think its his best performance but i know thats not saying much. i liked garners elektra...obviously not in her own movie though!

i still think clive owen would be a good choice for daredevil..or whoever said mathew fox, yeah i could see that.

either way if it does happen, lets hope the dont THROW THE S at it...just for you skyhook!

NAPosey:
Yeah, she's a decent actress. SHe can play a hard *** thug, theif, you name it, as long as she isn't "Sugar, spice and that jazz".

Yeah I was going toward Movie friendly with Milla, Dekota (In my opinion) has the most chemestry with DD behind the ranks of Karen and Electra. She's tuff, and to be in DD's world, you gotta be.

TheMyth:
Yes indeed, Ben Afleck couldn't out act a rock. I liked Garner as Electra, but she was under used. Like Sam L. Jackson in Starwars, or Gwen and Captain Stacy in SM3. Yes, Collin did over act, except that he's playing BULLSEYE the ultimate over reactor, Ferril had it down. Micheal Clark WAS good as Kingpin, not the Kingpin "I" had in mind, but he wa good. And like Garner, Under used.

Thank for the Foggy/Urich call complement, I thought of Sean Astin, a friend thought up Hugh Laurie and I thought:"Dude thats awsome." and used it.

i agree w/ the guy a few replys up...i think Devon Sawa is a great actor and could pull off the Matt Murdock role.
as for Daredevil, he can pull off a dark attitude and would look cool in a costume. as for his action sequences, just put a guy in the suit for the action and Sawa for the close ups.

"ben affleck wasnt that bad..and i hate affleck! i certainly think its his best performance but i know thats not saying much. i liked garners elektra...obviously not in her own movie though!"

I have to disagree. Affleck certainly was that bad. Also, his best performance has to be "Chasing Amy" by far.

Garner is too thin and American looking to play Elektra Notchos, who is Russian and has always been a darker stronger character than she was played by Jennifer (obviously that's not all Jennifer's fault, but the script as well).

I just hope this movie does eventually get a reboot. DD has got to be one of the coolest characters in the Marvel world.
WeaponX
WeaponX - 1/4/2009, 2:39 AM
Elektra is Greek. Not Russian and you're right, Garner fell short of the look and feel of the character. Too skinny, unattractive, physically awkward and white to pull off the role.

Maybe someone like Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour 2)... she couldn't possibly do any worse.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 1/4/2009, 3:08 AM
To TheSoulEater: Yeah, My girl loves to watch House, so I have recieved high dose of Hugh and lemme say that guy is a quick thinker and extremely talented as an actor. Your right about Jenifer Garner. What I meant when I said she "bombed the role because of bad direction.", it felt like at alot of points in the movie that you could actually see that the actors were being told to take the character a certain place that Jennifer herself didn't feel was right. As if you can tell the director was sitting there telling Micheal Clarke Duncan how to smoke his Cigar, you know what I mean, like the director was overcontrolling.
Check out my article on X4 when you get a chance.
