Amid reports of big shakeups at Warner Bros. following the disappointing box office performance of Justice League, it was recently announced that DC Entertainment President Diana Nelson would be taking a leave of absence due to "a series of personal situations."

At the time, Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Kevin Tsujihara assured us that Nelson would be back at some point, but the studio has now officially announced that she will not be returning to the position. The decision is said to be her own, and it's been stressed that Nelson was not forced out of her job.

For now, things will run as they have been until a replacement is appointed, with the DC executive management team of Dan DiDio, Jim Lee, Geoff Johns and Amit Desai reporting to Thomas Gewecke as they continue to run the company’s day to day.

Idk what effect she had on the movies but she’s managed all the other aspects of the DC brand well. Hope whatever made her leave isn’t too serious.

See if Bruce Timm or Paul Dini want the job

@dracula - You're greatly overestimating the intelligence of WB executives.

@soberchimera - Or give Geoff Johns the job and actually give him time to make an impact. Last time he was in a position like that, they removed him from the position after movies that were already in production when he took over, failed to meet expectation

@dracula - they actually didnt remove him. They removed Jon Berg. They were considering removing Johns as well, but they chose to keep him in that position .

@Tevii - He would be so great in the position if he would grow a damn spine. Berg ruined Suicide Squad and Justice League and Johns just let it happen. He could have helped protect them, like he did with Wonder Woman, especially since Snyder's work is right up his alley, but he let them go to crap. If he would grow a damn spine, none of this would have happened.

Hopefully who ever takes over realizes that just because one movie did well doesn’t mean they have to change things to be more like that movie Wonder Woman wasn’t great because it was light and the dark knight wasn’t great because it was dark they were just great movies

I wish her the best of luck and hope whatever she does next it is to her liking.

On a different subject I can't help, but wonder who will take her job in the future and hopefully who ever it is changes not only the comics part of DC, but also the movie and tv side too. Because new ideas are always welcome and can lead to many new stories for the better or the worse, but hopefully the better and not the worse.

Hmm, interesting... I noticed that WB had updated Walter Hamada's bio on their website a few days ago. His official title now is “President of DC-Based Film Production at Warner Bros. Pictures” (there’s still no official name for the DCEU). Here's his full bio:

"President, DC-Based Film Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. In this role, he oversees WBP’s slate of films based on Super Heroes and Super-Villains from DC, as well as titles based on other characters and stories also licensed from DC, including its Vertigo and MAD Magazine imprints. Hamada draws upon resources from across both WBP and New Line Cinema and works closely with Geoff Johns, President and Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment."

So, it now sounds like he’s running things alone, with Geoff Johns taking on the role of a consultant/advisor. The new bio also confirms that Warner Bros. is planning movies about villains and superheroes, like the Leto Joker origin movie, Birds of Prey and Harley Quinn projects we’ve heard about.

Interesting development for sure.

Her period as President was marked by the promotions of DiDio, Lee, Johns and Harras, the New 52, terrible movies and mediocre TV shows - not to mention a considerable deterioration of DC's animated films. Not a very impressive tenure as President of DC.

@johnnymarr - Don't forget the cancellation of Young Justice, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and the greenlighting of Teen Titans GO.

Sucks if she didn't want to leave, but as an apathetic response to this news, hopefully her absence allows for some change, not that she is conveniently the problem, she's very likely not, but if yesterdays news is any indication of the direction they're going, the DC films are making awfully difficult to root for them.
