Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros., DC Films, and Chernin Entertainment are developing a live-action Hourman movie, with the writing duo of Gavin James and Neil Widener attached to pen the script.
While it's uncertain which Hourman the movie will center on, in the comics, there are three different characters that take on the mantle: chemist Rex Tyler, his son Rick Tyler, and the android Matthew Tyler. The first Tyler creates a new synthesis, "Miraclo", which grants him super-strength and endurance, but only for one hour. His son eventually carries on his legacy.
Rex Tyler made his live-action debut on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, played by Patrick J. Adams (Suits; The Right Stuff), while both Rex and Rick Tyler feature prominently on Stargirl, played by Lou Ferrigno, Jr. (S.W.A.T.; How I Met Your Mother) and Cameron Gellman (Heathers; 20th Century Women), respectively. However, in both iterations, the Rex Tyler character has already been killed off, which does leave the door open for the movie to tackle a new version of the first Hourman.
James and Widener currently only have one credit to their name each, with James penning the 2010 thriller Footsteps and Widener writing the screenplay for the 2004 adventure film Subdivision, Colorado., but together they've been tasked with scripting San Andreas 2 for Warner Bros. and Now You See Me 3 for Lionsgate.
