HOURMAN Film In Development At Warner Bros. With Gavin James and Neil Widener Set To Write The Script

Well, here's an interesting story. It's being reported tonight that Warner Bros. and DC Films are in the early stages of developing an all-new superhero movie based on the JSA member Hourman!

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros., DC Films, and Chernin Entertainment are developing a live-action Hourman movie, with the writing duo of Gavin James and Neil Widener attached to pen the script.

While it's uncertain which Hourman the movie will center on, in the comics, there are three different characters that take on the mantle: chemist Rex Tyler, his son Rick Tyler, and the android Matthew Tyler. The first Tyler creates a new synthesis, "Miraclo", which grants him super-strength and endurance, but only for one hour. His son eventually carries on his legacy.

Rex Tyler made his live-action debut on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, played by Patrick J. Adams (Suits; The Right Stuff), while both Rex and Rick Tyler feature prominently on Stargirl, played by Lou Ferrigno, Jr. (S.W.A.T.; How I Met Your Mother) and Cameron Gellman (Heathers; 20th Century Women), respectively. However, in both iterations, the Rex Tyler character has already been killed off, which does leave the door open for the movie to tackle a new version of the first Hourman.

James and Widener currently only have one credit to their name each, with James penning the 2010 thriller Footsteps and Widener writing the screenplay for the 2004 adventure film Subdivision, Colorado., but together they've been tasked with scripting San Andreas 2 for Warner Bros. and Now You See Me 3 for Lionsgate.

I will say, I love the way DCEU is incorporating the JSA now. I feel like that's the right step.

But...

"together they've been tasked with scripting San Andreas 2 for Warner Bros. and Now You See Me 3 for Lionsgate."

Is sixty minutes really enough for a movie?

@Reeds2Much - Wow. LOL. WB executives-We tried limiting JL to exactly 2 hours or less. Let's try one hour and see if that's more successful.

@DannRamm113 - even if its the Plastic Man movie thats being reworked into a female lead project?

@bkmeijer - Hope it’s good, even if I don’t like the sex change, it’s just kinda unnecessary sometimes. So many great female characters in DC and they prefer to sex change a male one.. but yeah we gotta see Plastic Man finally be brought to live action.. hope they make him powerful enough for Batman to be worried about him like he should lol

@DannRamm113 - They are making one... But it's gonna be Plastic-Woman instead.

@JohnCastillo - I'm hoping the lead is gonna female and Plastic Man just as a side character in this scenario.

If they're doing a gender swap, they could just use Rita Farr as well. Although I can see them not going for that, since she's also in Doom Patrol already.

I'm sorry, but Why?

We still haven't gotten a Green Lantern Corps film. I understand a Flash film is planned, but even that hasn't come out yet.

So why Hourman and why before movies, like Static Shock or Green Arrow?

@BlackIceJoe - Static's probably getting his movie first.

GLC is gonna be a series.

I feel like the JSA could’ve been that right off the bat team movie. Couldn’t do that with Justice League. But maybe this will be good practice for when they want to try Justice League again.

I don’t wanna be THAT guy, but almost every single movie they’ve announced hasn’t happened. I’m talking Deadshot, Supergirl, Harley Quinn vs Joker, Harley Quinn AND Joker (somehow a different project lol), and Plastic Man.

Actually.. i just saw the other day thats it’s been 4 years since they announced Nightwing and we’ve had nothing since

@DaHyro - There used to be a user here who would list all the announced DC projects. That list just kept growing.

@DaHyro - The Batman put the Nightwing movie on hold since Matt Reeves wants to incorporate the whole Bat-Fam in his films .. that’s what was reported anyhow.
Who knows though since it seems WB is moving forward with Batgirl.
