A Duo of Writers Penning the Deadpool Script?

A Duo of Writers Penning the Deadpool Script?

The "Merc with a Mouth" could be going to Zombieland!

Only yesterday, MTV posted a snipppet of a recent interview with actor Ryan Reynolds in which he discussed X-Men Origins: Deadpool, Reynolds' solo spin-off of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the interview, Reynolds said that the studio was "just right now" making a decision about who would pen the script.

Well, if the source who leaked to Devin Faraci of CHUD can be believed, the decision has already been made and it won't be a writer, but writers. Faraci claims that his source told him that Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writing duo behind Zombieland, have been signed on to pen the adventures of the "Merc with a Mouth." Faraci admits that he was not able to verify the information.

Interesting. I loved Zombieland! The writing was actually really good. I can see that pairing working well for Deadpool.

I thought Zombieland was the funniest movie of the year. Hangover was very close. It had the perfect mix of action, comedy and a little bit of drama mixed in. Throw in a Bill Murray cameo and it's golden. Heck if they could throw in any celebrity cameo for Deadpool that would be great. Too bad Bea Arthur has passed away.

I think this movie will take everyone by surprise by how good it is. Dark horse of the summer of 2011?

Wow, this is a good sign in my book. Zombieland was hilarious, and extremely entertaining. They knew how to combine humor and seriousness (lack of a better word) excellently.

This gets a thumbs up from me. Now all we need is David Fincher behind the camera and we've got our movie ;)

Well, that sounds promising. Now we just gotta see who's directing it.

I would happily watch a Deadpool movie directed by Quentin Tarantino, lol. That'd be a wild ride! :)

@ Cade Wilson - I doubt this will be out in 2011, Reynolds will be working on Green Lantern starting Feb 2010 so I doubt Deadpool will be out the following year. Unless it's all rushed, once he's done he'll jump over but I doubt you MARVEL fans would want this movie rushed. It's safer to say 2012.

I also thought Quentin Tarantino would be good for Deadpool.

I agree with all you guys, the writers of Zombieland would do an incredible job on a Deadpool movie. Zombieland is easily the funniest movie of the year and it had brilliant performances from all its actors and a great plot so this would benefit a Deadpool movie. I hope they get the director of Zombieland for it too! Im starting to feel a lot better about a Deadpool movie now

I'm pretty sure "X-Men Origins: Deadpool" isn't a mistake, because I'm pretty certain that in order for Fox to keep the rights to the characters from defaulting back to Marvel, they have to keep making movies with "X-Men" in the title. It's just like when Marvel bought the rights to the title "Captain Marvel"--they had to constantly have a book with that title in print, or they would lose it and DC would be able to buy it back up and stop calling their Captain Marvel comics "SHAZAM."

Also, if this is true (The "Zombieland" thing, not the "character rights" thing...) this is great news. Zombieland had the perfect tone for a Deadpool movie...now all they have to do is not screw up the character again.

I love Zombieland, but I still say Hangover was better. This is good news. That movie had just the kind of writing that a deadpool movie should have. If this rumor is true, then we might just have a good deadpool movie on our hands.

I've never seen "Zombieland" but will when it's on DVD. Also, "X-Men Origins: Deadpool" is a doubtful name. After-all, they're rebooting the character. They'll probably call it "Deadpool" or "Deadpool: The Merc With a Mouth". I'd save the later for a possible second film.

@Elle1980

That was a cool video, the best bits of Deadpool. I have never read the ones where he fought the Hulk and teamed up with the Punisher, he sure must have pissed them off lol

Although who would win in a fight between Deadpool & the Hulk? It would be pretty evenly matched until Hulk rips Deadpool in half lol

:-D thanks dancingmonkey08 :-D

Yeah I actually had the face off against the hulk comic, though it was kinda comical' an not a real nitty gritty kinda face off :-).

Remember though D.P's healing factor is pretty strong, an i think he regenerated his heart once. ;-)

@Mike Sanderson,
Hi, As far as we all know from whats been said the Deadpool movie will have "Nothing" to do with the Wolverine one an will be a re-do of the character (but still played by Reynolds). And Reynolds has said that it will be a "true" depiction of comicbook Deadpool with the proper costume an everything, so they dont need it to connect with Wolverine in any way :-)

Speaking of which, have any of you guys seen what that "sleazoid jerk" Daken did to Punisher?!?!?.
