Deadpool Co-Creator Rob Liefeld Says Solo Spin-Off Is Likely

It still could happen if Wolverine makes enough money.

Despite the controversy surrounding the Weapon XI character in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” insiders keep dropping hints that Ryan Reynolds will reprise his mercenary role in a standalone “Deadpool” movie, if fans pull through at the box office.

Last week via Twitter, Liefeld posted that he had spoken with “Wolverine” producers who told him there were “definite plans to spin off Deadpool if the box office works.” This was bolstered by the fact that the film’s re-shoots included more screen time for Reynolds as Wilson, who Liefield mentioned, “was chosen specifically with the idea that he would carry [a possible] solo film.”

This raises some serious questions about exactly what version of the character would star in a spin-off. Since Reynolds is playing a Wade that is somewhat different from his comic book counterpart, does this mean that there is something more about the movie Deadpool/Weapon XI that we don't know about? Given the unreliability of the leaked version of the film, it looks like us Deadpool fans will have to wait until May 1 to find out for sure, especially since they revealed Wade will have more screen time in the final cut.
