DEADPOOL Rating Not Yet Determined Says Co-Writer

For those fans hoping for a hardcore Merc with a foul Mouth big-screen adaptation, you may be in luck as co-screenwriter Rhett Reese has dismissed reports of a PG-13 rating being set. Check it out!

Following the big announcement last week that Deadpool has finally been taken out of development hell and given a February 12, 2016, release date, the latest buzz surrounding the Merc with a Mouth adaptation has questioned whether or not director Tim Miller will be constrained by a PG-13 rating like all the X-Men movies. This sort of thing is usually determined when actual footage exists, but a report surfaced recently suggesting that Fox is indeed giving the Ryan Reynolds-starrer a PG-13 rating, as opposed to the much-desired R. However, one of the writers of the praised Deadpool script, Rhett Reese, has taken to his Twitter account to set the record straight. What do you think?

If it's not rated R (or 18 for us Brits) then there is no point!

I want a hard R but I can live with PG-13 if it's within the spirit of the character.

Cut the bull, make it PG-13 and make it good. Make it better than the books, cause his series is hard to get through. DP is better with other characters.

His Infinite Comics series was really great though.

They'll probs release a pg-13 version theatrically than an unrated/r rated one on bluray

To be Honest it has to be pg-13 if you guys want a crossover and everything it would not make sense for rated r. i mean i understand that its cool for his character but if you want to extend his years in movies it has to be pg-13.

Go the South Park rout. Make it bad enough to be R and make sure the really sexual stuff is all stuff you are happy to leave on the cutting room floor. Then when it's rated R, remove the over sexual stuff & full frontal nudity and watch the ratings board drop it to a PG13. Thus not having to loose anything important to the film and getting a rating that MORE people will go see.

I think Deadpool would greatly benefit from being rated R. The character is silly and goofy but you can't deny he's [frick]ing violent as [frick].

it will only be r-rated if they can make the movie for about $50 million,i see it being pg-13 though.

it would be hard to connect deadpool to the x-universe with an r-rating considering all the others have been around the pg rating.

save the r-rated deadpool for the blu-ray release.

Rated R would be too good to be true. I think they can still go to the limits of PG-13 and make it decent.

At the end of the day, we also don't want a two hours long gorefest with no substance other than blood.

I think the r-rated version for the home media release is the most realistic expectations we can have.

Why should this even be a consideration? This character isn't for children anyway, so why even bother with the PG-13 rating?

If they are giving us a February release and a low budget film why do they care if it's rated r? that said I'm excited for the film I hope it's grounded in the comics but does the character justice.

It will be released with a PG-13 rating. But since it was the fans who got this rolling, I bet they will release an uncut version for us on Blu-Ray

Just my guess

The fact that this is even is an issue for discussion is troubling to me. The Fox Studio heads have never understood the properties they are trying to make movies about and they don't care to. I feel like this is the primary reason Fox often has failed comic book movies. Anyone who knows a little bit about Deadpool knows a PG-13 movie would NEVER be able to do that character justice. They are going to have to shoe-horn things into parameters the material just doesn't fit, which will most likely (not definitely) make a bad comic book adaptation and therefore a bad comic book movie.
