We know that Disney is keen to continue the Deadpool franchise, and while Kevin Feige hasn't said much about the Merc with the Mouth, Ryan Reynolds was spotted at Marvel Studios not too long ago. Chances are the movies will retain the same cast, while taking place in a new world - the MCU - but does that mean we'll see Josh Brolin as Cable again after he played Thanos?
Well, if Captain Marvel and Eternals are any indication, Marvel Studios isn't too worried about casting the same person as two different characters (they both have Gemma Chan in common), and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld claims Brolin is anxious to return as the time-travelling mutant.
"Josh wants to be Cable again sooner than later," Liefeld tells ComicBook.com. "He is itching to be Cable again. He loved being Cable. He told me he understands how beloved his role as Thanos is, but he doesn't look completely like Josh Brolin."
"These are Josh Brolin's own words telling me, Rob Liefeld. He told me, 'Rob when I appeared as Cable in Deadpool 2, my phones rang off the hook,'" he continues. "It changed everything for him and obviously Josh is gonna get some career lifetime achievement award at some point. The guy is just one of our greatest actors."
Casual moviegoers are unlikely to realise that Brolin also played Thanos in the
Avengers movies, so it would be no big deal bringing him back as Cable, and fans did love his interpretation of the hero.
Liefeld seems to be pretty confident in what he's saying here too, so you have to believe Brolin has probably made his interest known to the people who matter at Marvel Studios too. There's been no word on what happening with the Deadpool franchise, though, despite rumours of a Disney+ TV series a while back.
