Deadpool may be one of 2016's most highly anticipated comic book movies, but it's also arguably the riskiest. Even if the R-Rated release makes fans happy, there's nothing to say it will be a box office hit, and like Dredd, it could then end up being a one off despite demand for a sequel. Fox are clearly confident in its chances of success though, with producer Simon Kinberg confirming that there's already talk of a follow-up. "I have seen a rough cut of Deadpool and it’s fantastic. It’s a really good movie. It delivers on the promise of the trailer," he reveals. "We certainly are talking about the sequel...But yeah [Fox is] feeling good about it, we’re all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel."
In the past, Tim Miller has hinted that a Deadpool sequel could introduce Cable, a character the Merc with the Mouth has a lot of history with in the comic books. So, is he going to be making an appearance or not? "It’s certainly come up because he’s such a big character in the world," Kinberg confirms. "And it’s a character that I’ve always wanted to do in one form or another, we talked about Cable actually in Days of Future Past at one point. But yeah we’re in such the early stages of sequel talk it would be genuinely premature for me to say whether or not he was gonna be in it." That's not a definite answer, but things are certainly looking good for Cable and Deadpool's respective futures. We'll hopefully hear something a little more concrete next February.
