Simon Kinberg Talks WOLVERINE 3 And DEADPOOL 2 Rating

Just how impactful was the Merc With a Mouth's success to future X-Men films? Well, according to producer Simon Kinberg, Deadpool had nothing to do with Wolverine 3 or any future X-Men stories...

It's now official that Hugh Jackman's final outing as the Wolverine would be his bloodiest yet as an R-rating has been confirmed. But did Wolverine 3 get it's R-rating due to the success of Tim Miller's Deadpool? According to producer Simon Kinberg, Fox has been planning for Wolverine 3 to be Rated-R long before Deadpool hit theaters.

“When there are films that want to be raunchier, want to be darker, want to be violent or R-rated, [Fox will] be open to it, explained Kinberg. “And not every movie should be. I don't think that the main X-Men movies should be R-rated; I don't think they're R-rated stories. But if we were to make an X-Force movie, that probably should be R-rated. And what we're doing with the Wolverine movie... that wasn't impacted by Deadpool. We'd made the decision for Wolverine to be R-rated before Deadpool came out. But I think there's even more confidence about having made that decision now that you see that an R-rated Deadpool movie can do better than any X-Men movie's ever done.”

It would seem that Deadpool's success had very little influence on any of the films. It's most likely that Deadpool merely opened the door to explore the darker, more violent stories of the X-Men universe. Now only one real question remains: Will Hugh Jackman finally don the classic Wolverine costume in his final adventure?

And of course Fox will deny that Deadpool's success changed anything, because they don't want to seem unstable.

Kinberg is 100% bullsh*tting on that front. Deadpool certainly opened the door for the R-rated Wolverine, but it also showcased the comic-accuracy that people want to see.

Well that's a lie, which Kinberg does a lot. If his statement had anything truth to it then the first 2 wolverine movies would have been R rated. The very fact X-origins was released shows that they have no idea what there doing one film to the next
