ALADDIN Concept Art Reveals Some Awesome (And VERY Different) Takes On The Live-Action Genie

Will Smith's Genie generated a lot of discussion before Aladdin arrived in theaters, and now some concept art has been revealed which shows just how different the classic character could have looked...

No one really expected much from Aladdin before it was released, and that first look at Will Smith's (clearly unfinished) Genie really didn't help matters. The live-action remake became a subject of ridicule as everyone tried to figure out why Disney would release a trailer with a Genie in it who looked like he'd stepped out of a PlayStation 2 game.

Well, that wasn't an issue in the movie itself, and the fan-pleasing, fun adventure ended up grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Now, there's already talk of sequels down the line.

Time will tell on that front, but some amazing new concept art has been revealed today which shows us just how different Genie could have looked. From far more cartoonish designs to a very different looking Will Smith, it's fascinating seeing how the character evolved, and makes one wonder what might have been had director Guy Ritchie gone in one of these directions.

I like that they considered different colors for the genie. Obviously they made the right choice of sticking with blue, but it's an interesting thought.

Not a big fan of this live adaptation. I thought it was stupid how the least interesting thing about an Aladdin movie is Aladdin. This was a Genie and Jasmine film, Aladdin’s arc is forgettable. Aladdin and Lion King weren’t as exciting or magical as the original.

I’m glad that Disney created a new avenue for people and their family to enjoy or get introduced to these beloved classics, but I guess it just wasn’t made for the people who loved the original.

TBH I’m surprised that I liked Dumbo more.

I would love to see an animated Aladdin movie with some of those art styles, especially the more cartoony artworks.

Now that’s the concept art they should’ve stuck with.

That third one looks like Hugh Jackman which would make some sense because he can sing and dance.

I really like the golden arm tattoos. That's a good design.
Reminds me of Prince of Persia Two Thrones.

Movie was a lesser version of the original just like just about all of these. Here today, gone tomorrow. Let it Rest In Peace, and the sooner the better
