Yesterday's new poster heralded the arrival of the first trailer for Disney's upcoming animated adventure Raya and The Last Dragon, and it's now online.

The teaser gives us a first glimpse of Raya (Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Kelly Marie Tran) and her trusty sidekick Tuk Tuk (who starts out tiny before growing much bigger) in action as they infiltrate a trap-filled temple before coming face-to-face with a mysterious masked warrior.

Tran's voice-over tells us that Raya is a "guardian of the Dragon Gem," and must track down the last dragon - Sisu, voiced by Shang-Chi actress Awkwafina - to unite her people and restore peace to the land.

The premise isn't exactly original, but the trailer is undeniably impressive! Check it out below and let us know what you think.

The brief synopsis tells us that, "Raya and her trusty steed Tuk Tuk must leave their Heart Lands home and track down the last dragon to help stop the villainous Druun."

Raya and the Last Dragon is directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6) and Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting), with a script co-written by Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 12, 2021.

This looks pretty good. Probably the first non-sequel or non-remake Disney property I'm actually interested in in a long time

"remember that crappy Mulan remake we did a while back? well, here's the good version", basically.

She reminds me of Katara. So I’m getting Avatar vibes from this with the tribes. Also some Moana animation vibes. This looks hella good.

@PantherKing - My exact thought half way through the trailer. "So this is basically Disney's answer to Avatar: The Last Airbender." Not that I'd complaining at all about that. This seems pretty promising.

@Odin - Honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way

why isn't Disney making/funding new projects like these instead of remaking old classics and making them worse? even a mildly successful animated feature is better than a live-action flop.

@TheDoctor1225 - granted, but at this point they have to at least suspect the live-action reamkes basket ain't worth putting that many eggs into considering most of them underperform (or a lot of them).

This looks dope! Though the 1st half was basically Chinese Tomb Raider (but that's not a bad thing)

The water running backward up those steps gave me Tenet flashbacks. And it didn’t feel good. This looks breathtaking though

Definitely seems inspired by the likes of Avatar and Korra with an Eastern based fantasy world filled with different tribes in conflict and a questing character with a giant mutant animal steed. I’m game for another entry in that kind of thing.

I do wish the trailer had been a bit more broad rather than so focused on that training thing or whatever though... I really want to see more of this world.
