Disney is seemingly zeroing in on a big-name star to play the role of the Genie in their planned live-action remake of Aladdin, and names don't get much bigger than Will Smith.
The actor, most recently seen as Deadshot in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, is said to be in early talks for the role, but at this point the "deal is far from a sure thing." The late Robin Williams' portrayal of the jovial Genie in the 1992 animated version is still hailed as one of the all-time best voice performances, so whoever does decide to play the character will definitely have some big shoes to fill.
Smith was in line to star in Tim Burton's Dumbo movie, but had to pass due to a scheduling conflict.
Director Guy Ritchie is currently conducting a worldwide search to find Aladdin's two leads.
