SUICIDE SQUAD Star Will Smith Is Reportedly In Talks To Play The Genie In Disney's Live-Action ALADDIN Movie

Multiple outlets are now reporting that Disney is looking at none other than Will Smith to bring life to the Genie in Guy Ritchie's upcoming live-action remake of the classic animated tale, Aladdin.

Disney is seemingly zeroing in on a big-name star to play the role of the Genie in their planned live-action remake of Aladdin, and names don't get much bigger than Will Smith.

The actor, most recently seen as Deadshot in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, is said to be in early talks for the role, but at this point the "deal is far from a sure thing." The late Robin Williams' portrayal of the jovial Genie in the 1992 animated version is still hailed as one of the all-time best voice performances, so whoever does decide to play the character will definitely have some big shoes to fill.

Smith was in line to star in Tim Burton's Dumbo movie, but had to pass due to a scheduling conflict.

Director Guy Ritchie is currently conducting a worldwide search to find Aladdin's two leads.

I like this bit of casting. Hopefully we get a fantastic tribute to Robin Williams in the process, another actor who I grew up watching.

I've got to say,

^ these guys have got to be pissed. They got passed up again for a role that one of them could have perfectly fit in.

@grif - I got to audition with them back around 2001 in Boston to be a bass player in their backing band. Didn't get the gig unfortunately but it was a great experience!

I'm ok with this. I'm a huge fan of Will Smith and he will do his own thing. Nothing will EVER beat or come close to William's take, but I think Will can do the role justice.

@Menks123 - I'm also a big Will Smith fan and don't hate this casting. It is so different than Robin and that's a good thing. Trying to duplicate or replace Williams would never have been as good so going in a completely different direction is the right call.

Ps I'm thinking he's going to be mostly cgi

@Menks123 - I'd go with Jamie costa who does a spot on robin Williams impersonation and dev Patel for aladdin.

AND I'm OG.
I'm trying really hard to picture Will Smith's Fresh Prince approach to the genie if any..

So Will would rap all the Genie's songs? Well at least it will sound more original than the other Disney remakes.
